Adorable hat. I passed my permit test, but didn't get around to taking my driving test before it expired. So I took the permit test again and failed. Third time's a charm.

Good luck on your driver's test. I hate the DMV witha passion. I failed my drivers test once because I nudged a trashcan and the lady made me go apologize to the owner and the guy who owned it gave her a stern look and said you bothered me for this? It was pathetic.

For what the opinion of another amateur commenter is worth, Maxi, maybe that distant feeling is a sself-defence mechanism. It sounds like you've been through some shitty emotional weather lately, from the simply exhausting to the actively distressing - you obviously know your personal rhythms better than I do, but maybe this is just the equivalent of sleeping off a patch of illness? I'm not suggesting you're emotionally ill, just that maybe what you need is a little while of that "detached" thing happening while you sort stuff out and build up your strength a bit.

Okay, if you just go on feeling like this indefinitely then something's wrong, but when I've gone through periods like that I found that sometimes the best thing to do is give yourself some time inside your own head, to just let yourself feel what you're feeling. The seasons change inside the way they do outside, and we do ourselves a disservice by fighting it.

It's well after midnight here - hope this makes sense. And apologies in advance if I'm coming over stuffy or patronising - it's not my intention

That's 18lbs. of prime Iowa standing rib roast beef, that is aging in my refrigerator for Christmas dinner on Christmas day.

Oh YEAH!....come to papa!

The menu includes:

Standing rib roast
Mushrooms carmelized in beef juice and brandy
Scalloped corn
Bacon & dill green beans
Prized cheese potatoes
Whole wheat bread rolls
Assorted salads
Cookies, fudge, pies and carrot cake

I'm getting full just thinking about it!

The prized potatoes are being done by my sister. They are basically twiced baked potatoes, but she usually jazzes up the soft insides with something special....and then covers them in cheese. Many, many years ago, someone commented that they were so good, they would win every prize in a contest. Ever since then, we've called them Prized Potatoes....an inside family joke I guess.....they are really, really good though.

I sometimes wish I was just making a menu for 3 people too.....but, a big family is a big family.....what are you going to do? I think I'll have 18 or 19 in the house on Sunday. Actually, I don't mind it so much. It only happens twice a year and I can handle that.
