Saw Arlo play it live at the Kennedy Center in DC about 6 years ago (right after Los Lobos and Rober Cray). He was looking right at the Watergate hotel, and noted that Chip Carter showed him a bunch of records left over from the Nixons in the White House -- including the Alice's Restaurant album! And then he got to thinking -- President Nixon got in trouble for an 18 minute gap on one of his tapes. What do you know that's 18 minutes long? Alice's Restaurant Massacree! That's why Nixon had to resign -- he didn't want anyone to know that that's what he was listening to!

Not only do I appreciate the completely random happy birthday, it's also great to know that someone else's family has the same tradition (surprising numbers of people just look at me funny when I associate listening to Alice's Restaurant with Christmas).
Home again, home again ... well for a few days anyway!
Then off to Winston Salem for Thanksgiving.
