Seeing my main girl (I wish) @adriella on the Front Page is a happy way to almost ring out the old year! I'm lucky enough to have two more days off before heading back to the old grindstone for a shortened work week. Fireworks have been on sale here since Friday, and while it's theoretically forbidden to use them before New Year's Eve, sporadic "gunfire"...

@kaicito I grew  up on Pogo (I'm 70); there was one book he created called the "Jack Acid Society" which lampooned Nixon viciously -- so I'm pretty sure he would have sliced up Trump as well.  Pogo was one of the first openly political (and liberal) cartoons... the first, oddly enough, was "Little Orphan Annie" where she was to represent the "Orphaned" American Communist Party taking down Daddy Warbucks... but the franchise was sold, and she (and what she represented) was bought out by the aforementioned War-Bucks...

@oldernow I'm aware that characters like Joe McCarthy, J. Edgar Hoover and Spiro Agnew or caricatures thereof appeared in the strip. I do like Kelly's drawing style a lot (I believe he worked at the Disney studios for a while)

As the days keep on tumbling by, and the wall calendar is getting rapidly thinner, I would like to get an early start wishing y'all a restful and joyful time (whether or not you celebrate any of the seasonal holidays) as we close out the old year and ring in the new one in just a few all-too-short days - which in my case will...

My new job has me roaming the streets of Berlin something crazy... my step counting app tells me I walked some 85 kilometers last week, and yesterday I hit a daily record with some 28,000 steps amounting to about 20 km. Not only do I get to see the city, but I get fit and drop weight, too, so it's a win-win. I'm happy as...

Hmmm, some SG genius (aren't they all?) scheduled back-to-back sets today of @dyogenes and @aristotelia - must be Dead Greek Philosopher's Day! Who's next, @plato ?

ferkixlll:
😃 then Anaximader, Pythagoras, and Socrates need to be chosen to round out the bill. I offer up the youtube Monty Python "Australian Philosophers Song".

In fact, I could use one right now.

Germany celebrates its reunification or more correctly its unity each year on Oct. 3, and as we had guests this year, we ventured out into the heart of Berlin. We sidestepped the crowds at the Brandenburg Gate, and instead took advantage of free admission at the German Historical Museum and other museums, such as the Urban Nation street art museum. Here's a few pics:

I can't believe it's been nearly two years since I dabbled at being an extra for what was one of the biggest German TV productions yet... Babylon Berlin. At the time (I vividly remember my first day of shooting was exactly the morning following the 2016 election) I got outfitted with various 1920s costumes, and survived a number of relatively uncomfortable and long days of

I can't be sure how our experiences differ. It does sound similar. I personally can't stand waiting around for no reason. It makes me get insanely agitated. Managing that is stressful! I was interested in a behind the scene look, and I too now watch things with a different eye. On a level though, I kinda feel like it's taken a bit of the suspension of disbelief ability away, which if you get too much of that I'd fear it could ruin the entertainment value of media all together. I dig new experiences and gaining new perspective, but it's a double edged sword sometimes, cutting both ways.
ferkixlll:
Indirectly an extra. Back when they were shooting the Civil War movie for "Gods And Generals", the unit I'm with was at the Antitum Re-enactment. We could see the towers for the cameras, so when they show the sweep of the battlefield somewhere in the Confederate Lines is me. Unlike some of the other guys in who could actually find themselves in "Gettesburg".

Because I or my phone suck at taking adequate pics, here's a professional vid of last night's historical, once-in-a-millennium Berlin concert by They Might Be Giants. It was quite a show!

Miss me yet? I'm happy to say I'm back from 10 days of vacation in Northern Italy, and a super lovely stay it was. Our hotel was on the shores of Ledro Lake, a smaller lake near the northwestern corner of larger and more famous Lake Garda. We had the most beautiful weather throughout, and balanced our days between sightseeing the area, and hiking the...

@gadget Oh you mean "mille grazie" vs. "grazie mille"? I believe both are correct (and have in fact heard both).

Spent a pleasant half-a-day recently at the fairly new Museum Barberini in Potsdam, a showcase for modern art financed by SAP co-founder and well-known (in Germany, that is) billionaire Hasso Plattner. Bill Gates showed up when the museum was opened a year or so ago.

So, here are a few impressions of lovely downtown Potsdam and a few images of the art on display; currently...

For those happy few who occasionally read my ramblings, here's an update on my life - the story of this Summer had so far been that I, along with my colleagues, was working on concepts to keep our little school for "behaviorally challenged" boys afloat beyond the new school year, which started 08/20. This wouldn't have been easy in any event, since we also needed...
