For the key to the word defenestration, we must look at political history...

In 1617, Catholic officials in Bohemia closed protestant chapels that were under construction, despite guarantees of religious freedom that the Protestants had been guaranteed under an earlier emperor. A group of Protestants called an assembly, and two imperial commissioners were found guilty of violating the guarantee of religious rights and were...

very nice. i heart language and word origins.

as for the candy delivery, i suspect that's the kinda thing some of the more upscale weed-delivery services in large cities should branch out into. "While you're ordering, you may want to pick from our selection of snacks, too -- you know you're gonna want 'em."

At work lately I've been going through books in the 400s, so I'm seeing lots of rare words, word/phrase origins, foreign phrases, etc.

I think that new French term for email, "courriel," is charming. I don't think it's really worthwhile to keep a language "pure" of foreign influence (where would we be without "barbecue"? I guess stuck with "BBQ"?) but it sounds classier than "email"....

Speaking of Shonen Knife, I've been buying this great peanut butter they started getting at my grocery store. It's ginger and chili pepper peanut butter. Mmmm mmm!!!! Cynthia actually took some back to Canada for her dad.

vastad:
haha, I liked your sarcastic one liner to my huge journal entry.

hmm...I'm just not into SG that much anymore. it really has come to the point where I'm here for the interesting people like yourself. smile

I dig the Amy Linton pic and yes NOW I know who she is because I was debating a while ago about buying a 'Go Sailor' CD of which she was a member (and cretor of too I think). Definitely in that genre of indy-grrl rock I was reintroduced to by 'But I'm A Cheerleader'. Tattle Tale and Dressy Bessy are very much similar bands.

---

personally i think 'courriel' is a really nice word. I think it's more of an irony that they took the word from their Canadia-French cousins whom the Continental French frequently deride for their 'hideous mangling of the mother tongue'.

---

definitely gonna get my travel licks in myself. thinking of seeing a friend in Finland to try and see if their still exists a friendship between us. Also, moving to England in September. Next summer I plan to fly to canada and then road trip down through the States. Lots of fun.

I really really like the parties which involve deep conversation and hilarious banter. I like a party that makes my stomach mucles hurt from laughing.

I'm a few pages away from finishing my first HP Lovecraft story....yeah, I picked "The Call of Cthulhu". Yeah, because it's a Metallica song. Gimme a break, I'm reading, there is an intellectual element to it.
I'm also gonna...

You know what? I love reading about other people reading... I've been reading a hell of a lot lately. Which is awesome. I neglected reading for the longest time and I felt like shit because of it. I feel like I've fallen in love all over again. Like discovering those old records you haven't listened to in a long time... a new love.

P.S I'm SO SO SO sorry I'm bad at the communication thing lately, I'll be setting aside some time this weekend to deal with emails and such, promise kiss

im a fan of HP lovecraft my favorite stories are The Haunter of the Dark, dreams in the witch house, the shadow out of time, but there are many many worth reading several times also the short novels are good Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath exotic The case of Charles Dexter Ward i think involves the salem witches with the Cthulhu universe and At the mountains of madness a semi-sequel to E A Poe's Narrative of A Gordon Pym

I'm gonna have to pick up that zine, if I can dig it up somewhere (no pun intended.) I have been in some of the tunnels beneath the U of M, which were kinda interesting compared to the Madison ones. No sewage in either, by the way!

Time has flown ridiculously this weekend. I felt like I was on a deadline all the time, to get somewhere, or going to meet someone, or trying to get movies watched by a certain time.
Friday I went to see the Aislers Set. I enjoyed the chaos of the opening band, a reformed bunch called Tina Age 13. Strangely, I was dancing by the stage...

hi i like the way your journal has actual content i very much like Kurosawa's movies i think my favorite is Kagemusha for its epic dimensions and the interesting story about the ordinary guy who becomes a warlord i also like the one about the Nagasaki disasterRaphsody in August because it is so poetic and the sadness is so affecting

Huh, long time no update? I was hoping to get like a whole buncha answers to questions, and have been busy...it feels like. Ten days is a hell of a lotta SG to miss. It's not that I don't want to update, it really is the I-should-look-around-SG-all-night factor working in, and I've actually seen Music board things I felt like posting about.

I was reading...

Sorry, brougham I've been on a herculian JagerBomb and Michelob bender. I'm so kaput that I'm actually one of those guys who calls people BROUGHAM. By the way you have IMPECABLE taste!! Totally spot on. I really dug what you had to say about Jewel. I could see how the whole tank homicide thing as OVER THE TOP until she released that silly poetry book. After that it was open season. You should be a "remorseless Jewel hating machine" I had to steal that from the curmudgeonly sea captain from the SIMPSONS. But he called Homer a "remorseless eating machine" or something to that effect. "Argh, tis no man tis a remorseless eatin' machine".

1) Anteater, Llama, Pelican, Bull Mastiff, africanized bees, Pteradactyls (I want two of them because I wanna see how dinosaurs fuck. Especially the flying ones. It would be cool if they quacked like ducks.) That fucking flying fluffy dragon dog from the Neverending Story, Komodo dragon so I can make it maul the neighboors atomic-shitting Ren Hoek dog. Octopus. I always thought a true villain or village eccentric should have a big ass octopus in his or hers living room. It just looks menacing and makes my hillbilly ass look worldly. One of those island parrots like the pro wrestler Koko B. Ware had. That guys was a piece of work!

3) Heroes and Villains by the Beach Boys. Always See Your Face by Love. Symptom Of The Universe by Sabbath (well, at least until that hippy dippy shit at the end comes in). Time of the Season by The Zombies. Mississippi Queen by Mountain (Cmon cheech, I'm from the midwest. Can't I be allowed at least one Beer Commercial classic rock radio rotten apple?) Cheap Sunglasses by ZZ Top ( I know that's two but Nascar is on and I'm feelin froggy. And I was named after the bass player). In Dreams by Roy Orbison. Ever Fallen In Love by The Buzzcocks.

3) Yes, because John Carpenter is the one of the few people making bad movies right. Plus Kim Catrall is a hot little number. Kurt Russel is also running around with one of those Tech Nine machine pistols that the gangster rappers use.

Ever get back from work/dinner at 7:30 and have to write a whole lot of crap in your journalafter first listening to Make Up and Satellite of Love?

I felt so vindicated today by seeing the MSN poll of Most Overrated Actor, with Ashton Kutcher apparently on his way to edge out Jimmy Fallonbut I have to admit, I do think these guys have some...

review stuff? well i have now written about music for 20 years, most of it for a living or rather a "living" and i do and say enough stupid and self-aggrandizing things on ehre so i shan't quot emyself --actually i most remember the lamest things i've written, like saying for the voice about yo la tengo in 1988 that ira's guitar "screams in the dirt" -- that's just SO BAD!

Wow. Ten days of no SG. I can't complain but it's good to be back here...I'm just a bit overwhemed at how much looking around I'm gonna have to do tonight!

And with that, I gotta go get dinner...and hopefully the apartment "valet" is open by now, as I see I have a UPS parcel from someone...ebin or Cherry? And I somehow have to figure...

I wish I had time to answer all the people who posted yesterday. I kept trying to go on SG last night and it wouldn't work! Did anyone else have this problem?

I've neglected to mention dreams I've had lately.

Tuesday/Wed last week I dreamt I was hanging out at the Osbourne mansion, and I hugged Kelly. We were all in the living room (Kell, Jack, Sharon) talking and Kelly lied down on the back of the couch, and I was like "Well, what if I hugged Kelly?" and so I did, holding her waist and kinda,...

That sounds like quite a dream you had!?! Panties and all. I sorta wish I had something to ask you before you leave for your trip, but you seem like you have enough on the go anyhow. Have fun.

Depends on the mood - sometimes nothing is just right.

I can play the sophisticate if necessary, but one of my biggest fears is that I'll become a pretentious asshole like my parent's friends, or like my Dad on occasion, and just talk shit all day long and not notice that no one is into it, and I'm the asshole at the party that no one wants to get stuck talking to.

ah, i missed the porno bit or the surrealistic thingy. but as far as surreal porn goes, have you ever seen anything directed my micheal ninn? he has a film called "zazel" or "azazel" that is a glossy, high production porn about angels fucking devils. i haven't seen it, but it looks surrealistcally cool.
