Ever get back from work/dinner at 7:30 and have to write a whole lot of crap in your journalafter first listening to Make Up and Satellite of Love?
I felt so vindicated today by seeing the MSN poll of Most Overrated Actor, with Ashton Kutcher apparently on his way to edge out Jimmy Fallonbut I have to admit, I do think these guys have some talent on occasion. But it just goes to show you, if you put anyone on that many magazine covers, hatred of them just becomes impossible. I blame it on tedious grocery checkout lines. As for MSNs sports polllook, you can hate Anna Kournikova if you want, but please do not say that Lebron James is less overrated. Lebron is a HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETE, for gods sakes, and hes already made more money than Kournikova without playing a minute of NBA ball. I can guarantee you that Kournikova could beat other tennis players in high school. Big fucking whoop.
Im very pissed at whoever has checked out my CD of Mellow Hits of the Seventies from Arlington Library. Memo to whoever has it outit was due back on JUNE 22 nd, FUCKER!! BRING IT BACK!!!! I say my CD because, wellit is mine, damn it! I need to burn Black Water and Ventura Highway to a mix CD. I love Ventura Highway, although I will admit it is a brainless song, all due to one lousy line:
Cause the free wind is blowin' through your hair,
and the days surround your daylight there.
Seasons cryin', no despair;
alligator lizards in the air.
Yeah, um...alligator lizards.in the air
Its an otherwise beautiful nostalgic song, but Ill concede that thats a terrible line on every level. Im surprised to see that the Mellow Hits CD has Dixie Chicken by Little Feat. Granted, Dixie Chicken is not ball-busting, vertebrae-crunching rock and roll. It is not a searing photon torpedo into the quivering, jellied heart of the beast. However, I wouldnt exactly say it was Seals & Crofts, either. I had this same problem when soft rock stations would play Segers Old-time Rock n Roll. Its not Natas or THE ELECTRIC EELS, but Id say Segers songnot exactly TPau, either.
I have toldI believe MisterSatawwn, maybe Tunnelslats, in IM chatabout the above descriptions. They are from The Rock Yearbook 82. I would kill for a copy of this book. My sis had it because it had Adam Ant in it. I actually liked Adam Ant before she did, but she went berserk over himanyway, the above descriptions were in two record reviews in the book. I forget who the first one was about; the reviewer wrote if ball-bustin, vertebrae-crunchin rock and roll is what you want, then [so-and-so] is not worth buying etcetc. The second description is unequivocally about Mob Rules by Black Fucking Sabbath, though. It was taken from, of course, Kerrang magazine. I have a feeling I discussed this book with Tunnelslats because it described Great Gonzos- the Best of Ted Nugent as one of the ultimate gross-outs. Of course, I now think Ted is a conservative dillwadbut the guy did write Free For Alland My Love Is Like a Tire Iron, feats yet to be equaled by Noam Chomsky.
I was gonna write more, butI dunno, this journal seemed a lot cooler at 3 this afternoon when I was writing this stuff down. Yeah, bag on Lebron James, use the searing photon torpedo quotethisll wow em all at SG! I dunno, seems a little junior high to me nowwell, not every one can be a Maserati, folks.

Questions of the Day
What are some of your favorite brainless songs? At first this might seem like a simple guilty pleasures questionbut no, Im looking for the dumbest lyrics/themes in songs you like. Its not enough that it be, say, a disco song with empty love lyrics. It has to be baaaad, bad, cringingly dumb.
What are some of your favorite phrases from reviews (records, books, movies), that you remember verbatim? While Mob Rules is only my second-fave non-Ozzy Sabbath album, I have to admit that phrase makes me like it that much more. In high school, as Bunnyhop zine once said, I was really into Dio.
EveL -- I looked at some Amazon stuff on Sebadoh at work.
