well the weeekend went better than I really expected it to. The very notion of my dad's side of the family all packed into a summer condo on the beach sounded like a recipie for disaster, but minor squabbling and annoyance aside, the weekend wasn't a total shambles.
it's funny. my mother's side of the family is much larger and much more close knit than my dad's side which is pretty small actually.
anyhow. it was good to see my grandmother. she's really getting older and it probably won't be many more times to see her out and about like this. she had a great time and that's at least as important as the whole "bye Dave, hope you don't die or nuthin'" theme of the weekend. it was also good to see my two cousins who are much more like nieces given that the older of the two girls is barely four years old. they're precocious and terribly tiny tyrants, but they're towheaded angelic looking cutie tyrants. they don't know what to think of me since I'm the scary tall guy who (as far as they can tell) isn't very good at staying clean shaven and only comes out at Christmas...but hands out presents and spins them around till they're dizzy and lets them play with his camera...so he's not all bad...just weird.
the focus of the weekend was fishing.
my uncle has a 20ft boat that we were able to take about 20-25 miles off shore for some deep water fishing, whichi was cool. Got to go out on the ocean, which I love. I actually did some fishing and caught some red snapper (ahhhhh! Red Snappah! Vewy Tasteee!) which was actually pretty tasty. we baked and fried some up the last night there.
so...all in all....good weekend. the only thing I regret about it was that it was four days I lost from doing anything else to get ready to leave. Now I feel even more rushed to prepare and pack and get things done. there's a LOT to do and not much time to do it in. my life is about to be taken up by the heels and violently shaken up again.

So it's 8 days till you go to Louisiana, right? Not until you leave for Iraq?
