So, the Nick Cave show officially rocked. biggrin I love general admission shows. My sweetie and I managed to take up position right up front during the opening band's set (before anyone cared to oppose us), and we stayed up front through Nick's entire set.

Nick played a great set, too. Some highlights as follows:
1- "The Mercy Seat" which he now does as a slow piano piece to begin, with the cadence of Johnny Cash's cover, and only slowly builds to the insanity of the original cut.

2- "From Her to Eternity" One of my favorite Bad Seeds songs ever. And the energy of a live rendition is almost traumatizing.

3- "Sad Waters" G-d, I love that song.

4- "Wild World" A song from Nick Cave's OG band, The Birthday Party. From what I understand, Nick hasn't performed a Birthday Party song in over a dozen years. Definitely a memorable moment.

5- "Christina the Astonishing" The weakest track off Henry's Dream becomes positively riveting when performed live. It almost made me like the song itself.

6- "Red Right Hand" The song that even the non-fans may know, this sucker rocks live. Especially because Nick can't resist the impulse to make up new lyrics on the fly. "You don't have no Momma; he'll find you one. You don't like your Papa; well he is exactly what you'll become . . ."

7- He played only two songs off Nocturama, the new album, for which I don't especially care.

8- "Hallelujah" Just a great song.

9- Two encores, the first of which contained "Deanna" and the second "God Is In The House"

Except for the couple who decided to fuck (literally) in the middle of the crowd, and did so in a crowd so tight that the chick kept bumping into me while her boytoy took her from behind puke , I must honestly say that the show was without flaw. Definitely better than seeing Nick at the Wiltern, which is assigned seating.

Have just read your story "Just a Snippet" and wanted to say I thought it was really lovely.

And Nick Cave!! Oh to have been at Melbourne Uni with him and the rest of The Birthday Party, certainly some of the coolest Australians we have ever produced!
