I compromised and did some cleaning AND some gaming. I think I'm getting a cold I must have caught at the con though. There were some pretty unhealthy people there. So far I've got a sore throat and the sniffles. I'm sucking on some herbal throat drops: echinacea and green tea. I put on some wooly socks and I'm going to go curl up in...

Sci-Fi Con Update: So I geeked it out and had a great time. I didn't stay around for the social/dance last night as I'd reached my social interaction saturation limit and was fast turning into a crusty hermitgnome.

I found some teensy little devil duck pencil toppers and bought a rainbow of them for surlyclown. I went to the charity auction and although I...

On marriage plans:

Elope
Come back
Have a huge party

Much easier to invite everyone to a party. And since you have eloped you will piss everyone off, but once they know that they are all pissed that will council out and everyone will be glad that they have been invited to a party

(I am doing a physics course presently)

Elle and I did that, but in the end we had a wedding at Chteau Montebello with 12 guests, some immediate family some friends, but they were sworn to secrecy, although my 7 year old at the time sorta let it slip.

Everyone was in a forgiving/party mood for the bash. We got over 200 bottles of wine as gifts!

O if Jennifer Connelly asked me to marry her I would, then move to Bountiful B.C. to live with her and Elle and with Winston Blackmore and his many wives biggrin

i don't blame you all. matter of fact, i support it, smile

So this weekend I'm really geeking out: Keycon. If you don't feel like clicking on the link, it's the annual scifi/fantasy convention in my burg.

I'm going with my rolemaster gaming group. I think we're going to be keeping an eye open for a replacement player as one of our group dropped recently.

I've only been once before, but I attended a few workshops,...

O - and I'm back!

Hi.
Regarding your comment:

'there's a certain point with excess where you gain satisfaction from giving up control. In this case, you're giving up the option of having choices'

not only does it make sense, it makes me think...
You are absolutely right, of course - my problem with alcohol was always that I relish the opportunity of ceding my control to something else, and excessive abstinence is just another kind of losing control...

It is a pleasure to be the beneficiary of your wisdom, thank you.

allergies are driving me nuts. I've got a splitting sinus headache (yeah, one whiny journal after another tongue) Is it enough to stop me from playing some Oblivion? God no! surreal robot

Well my mom had a good Mother's Day. The flowers were amazing, so nice in fact that my mom called the floral shop to thank them. The chocolates went over well too. It turns out that I didn't have to rake the lawns, but my mom got a new rake outta the deal.

How'd the dinner go? Well it went well, except my future brother-in-law...

In the ten years before Steve McQueen died in 1980, he tried to get a personal project called Yucatan produced. Now Lance Sloane, a friend of the family who Steve McQueen treated like a son, has pulled two trunks out of the McQueen basement. The trunks are full of meticulously detailed notebooks with characters studies and storyboards for the project which was never to be...

Mmmm, Steve McQueen. He is fabulous, isn't he? I can never see The Thomas Crown Affair or The Great Escape too many times. This new project sounds fascinating.

Thanks, we just have our good days and bad days from time to time i suppose. And it is so very nice to have someone there for me.

It's Mother's Day tomorrow. Have I bought my mom a card yet? No. blush Yesterday I go check my mail and there's a card addressed to my mom (c/o my address) from surlyclown. awwwww. love

My mission today is to find a suitable card, pick up guinea pig supplies from my vet across town, find out what my mom would like to do for mom's day,...

I'm really enjoying the new Calexico album Garden Ruin.

felt a tremor stir beneath my breath
that forecasts storms on the gallup poll
waking up from the nightmare news
hoping to read a sign in the morning air

nothing changes here and nothing improves
all say my friends who just want out
and leave these troubles behind
scatter like paper in the eye of...

I have a couple of Calexico albums but I'm afraid I find them a little... tiresome after a while, if undoubtedly accomplished...

I am glad to see that you are familiar with the works of Whitehouse. I thought this site was the kind of place I might get some recognition. Needless to say all my co-workers, acquaintances and friends looked blank when I mentioned Whitehouse and uncomprehending when I explained the principle.

I am sad to hear that you don't feel deserving of your wonderments. I am never quite sure how I feel about such matters. I guess on the one hand I am scandalised that a fellow as terrific as I should be living alone on modest means rather than surrounded by jacuzzi babes and riding in a stretch Navigator (sorry - I'm still on that hip-hop tip!); but, on some other level - less accessible but more profoundly rooted - I must not feel deserving of anyone else's love.

Last night, around at Emma C's, I wanted more than anything to stroke her hair, to put my arm around her, to kiss her goodbye. But I didn't, couldn't.

It's odd. I was glancing through imdb and noticed an entertainer who'd killed himself. I clicked on the 'suicide' link and somehow got drawn into a world of Hollywood tragedy.

Well actually not just Hollywood, it seems actors the world over are a fragile, suicide prone bunch. Some of them gave up on life with barely any credits to their names. Others pulled the plug...

entertainement is such an odd environement. put together the coldest, bitter, i-don't-care-as-long-as-i-make-money businessmen and businesswomen and mix that with a bunch of loonies, attention angry, sometimes-drama-queen and what do you expect ? wink
