So, I love my family. But this year I was struck by something. My youngest sister is 12 now and lives in a richer area of LA. Her Christmas was good in terms of material goods, but towards the end of the day she became completely frustrated over the fact that she wasn't given a new iPhone 6s. She has a 5s... And she's 12....

I just offended my coworker by saying her family gives too lavishly.   One of her sister's gifts was a $500 purse.   Some designer I don't even know who it is, bc I don't care about that crap.  But I mean seriously...who needs a $500 purse ? The whole tale she regaled me with involved one after the other gift that cost more than $100.  One of them was a $100 thermos cup!? My husband's family is the same way and it is so overwhelming.   Everyone is concerned with how much they spent and whether they got enough in return.   Sorry for the rant on your post ! Haha.  I do agree that it would be nice if the girl appreciated what she has.   I think younger siblings often think they never get enough.

@chefbeth I think it's a trend in today's culture to put a price tag on things and try to outspend the other person. At least it is in some places, like a lot of LA. But then again I think it's been a problem for most of human history, it just seems amplified by the culture of advertising and consumerism we're caught in.

Hello anyone who gives a damn!

I've been away for quite some time, but I'm back with a vengeance! Or maybe just with stomach pains from the turkey jerky I ate this morning.... either way, I'M BACK!!!

Also, I'm still getting used to the new layout, as well as attempting to access this site solely through the use of my tablet... I'm not sure how...

So my ex just called me last night... after we had a nice little talk last week about what we'd been up to. She basically gets on the phone and says "I wanted to tell you last time we talked, but I started seeing someone else."

so now I'm all severely depressed and mopey. Plus, I haven't heard back from a couple of jobs, and...

Hey bro, thanks for the friend request smile. Im glad my experience is able to help people honestly. I replied to your post in the break up club so i wont say too much here besides: keep your head up man, it will get better!

If it makes you feel any better, my last ex of 2yrs was with someone else 2weeks after she'd broken up with me. And whats more, it was with her "best friend" that i always knew had a crush on her. Of course she always denied him having any feelings for her.

very nice! That is wonderful you found a job! It really is something for this freakin' area. I am constantly exploring LA. I will just get off the freeway and see where the drive takes me. I do not really worry about it since when I first moved here I always seemed to need gas when I was passing Compton and my job at the time was all Mexicans who would take me to eat in south central. I never saw anything that scared me. Now I just feel like LA is a constant adventure!

Dude!

It feels more right shooting the breeze here than on Facebook. Dunno why. Just more comfortable. There is something... antiseptic about that site.

Still trying to figure out who gifted (or bought) me 3-months access. Any ideas? I'm working on a theory that Involves Martin Bormann and the Shadow Chancellor of the British Exchequer...
