Singing is such a great release. My voice has strengthened because of the commute from hell. All of those hours on the road have been available to perfect a harmony or to just sing along with the radio and learn new songs. Wow.
My talent amazes me sometimes.
I'm not really one for boasting but damn.
I guess I can toot my horn for a little bit. How many partially deaf singers do you know who sang at Carnegie Hall when they were 17? Granted, it was with a choir but still. My name's in the program. That counts for something, right?
Yes, you read right. I'm partially deaf. Early exposure to loud sounds (I have my father to thank for my musical talent and his gigs to thank for the hearing impairment) as well as many, many childhood ear infections had an impact on my hearing capacity.
My doctors (even my current GP) are amazed I *can* hear at all. Apparently the scarring on my eardrums is really that bad; they also wonder why no one ever thought to put tubes in my ears. What the hell would that have done? Anyone? Probably nothing, but anyway. I'm basically fine now, both ears are functioning at 70-80% of what they should be, or so I'm told. It fluctuates. Somehow though, my speech patterns are all normal.
Maybe since I wans't born with the impairment? Who knows.
Oh, sure, sometimes I miss things when people are talking, but it's not difficult to ask someone to repeat themselves.
I know if I didn't have music I'm probably shrivel up and wilt. That's no fun.
