Nihlism is one of the coolest things ever.

I lived just below the Yukon border for a year, it was beautiful country, however winters and the ultra-conservative nature of the place drove me out.

I'm doing my 2nd year of electrical school, I move between funeral service and electrical work and at this point I'm wrangling electrons for the next few years. I'll more than likely go back to full-time mortician work in the next five years when the pay is better.

It would seem I'll be just fine so longas I do what I'm supposed to. I'll likely be posting an entry in my journal when I feel more up to it, but for now, I'm copying and pasting, then maybe personalizing, the following:

Potassium has always passed through me leaving me at times dangerously hypokalemic (with low serum potassium levels) and I've always had to make sure I have extra potassium in my diet and have always been able to tell when it's dropping too much (I feel like I'm about to pass out and then my vision goes grey and I collapse. Something (we don't know what yet) caused a sudden swing in the opposite direction and the high potassium level caused a severe strain on my normally very healthy and strong heart.

I have a lot of orders to follow and will have to take potassium (K+) levels every day until I'm stable and do a cardiac stress test next week.

It's weird, though - I'm normally the one trying to convince my patients that too much potassium will kill them. So I'm well familiar with what I have to do. Now we have to figure out how this happened in order to prevent it from happening again. I'd ridden 15 miles on my bicycle that day, but that's not uncommon for me.

Interesting. Hypoglycemia is another issue I've had - it's destructive attempts culminated around 1989 or 90 when I was woriking 3 jobs and found little or no time for sleep or food. I had jus climbed an 18 foot ladder and felt the same funny feeling I'd felt a few times prior. Next thing I knew I was in the hospital surronded by folks who wondered how I opened my eyes and spoke when i was supposed to be comatose.

I quit one job the next day, and gave two weeks notice to another. Sugar's easier to check, though. I check my glucometer whenever I feel weird and if it's normal I know it's probably low potassium. Only now, that's not even cut-and-dried as I went from potassium levels as low as 1.9 to levels as high as 7.5 (last night).

On the up side,my insurance should cover a rather cumbersome machine with which I'll be able to use a lancet to fill a capillary tube and run checks on my K+ (potassium) at home. It helps sometimes to have a degree in medicine and work in the field.

Yeah, I saw a show REO Speedwagon did at Sturgis a few years back. Kevin Cronin reminded me of Pat Boone back when he did that album of metal covers. It wasn't a pretty sight.

No kidding. I pretty much drank/slept the first half of this year away. Especially the summer. When the NBA playoffs were going on, it was pretty much a blur.

I can relate to the multitude of jobs - I forgot you're so close to my age.
As someone who has at times been responsible for hiring and firing, I can attest to the efficacy of the one page resume. It really does save time for the viewer and presents an air of organization. Which is why I so often have recommended the skills-based resumes for people who either have not had many jobs or wh have had tons, like us. Mine is skill-based, in fact. I am in the medical field, and have more than ample skills in that field to list, but my previous years in cretail mangement help hone my people skiils in a number of ways, and I represent that on my resume.

When I was in college I did a resume for a woman whom, it turns out, was going for the same job in oncology as me, and due to my usage in her resume of the fact she cared for her late husband in his terminal cancer days and her willingness to take an 'early out' from college, SHE got the job instead of me, despite my being better suited for the job overall.

Although he was known more for writing childrens' books, he was a prolific underground singer/songwriter and wrote a bunch of songs for JC and Dr. Hook and also recorded a lot of stoner songs (I Got Stoned & I Missed It, et all) and wrote a follow-up to A Boy Named Sue (he wrote the original, too) called "Father of a Boy Named Sue," where Sue was a drag queen and ended up living with the dad and being his ho.

Actually, Shel Silverstein had a fatal heart attack in 1999. i think I sang his 'The Smoke-Off" at the next gig I played after that - it';s about a cntest between an old beatnik, The Calestoga Kid, and Pearly Sweetcake. He could roll 'em faster than anyone could smoke and she could smoke 'em faster than anyone could roll.

I'm more of a classic Vans man myself, sure for the first few weeks they're pure hell, but after that it's pure gravy. As for my blog none of that stuff really worries me it actually fasinates me as to what types of physical adaptations these stresses will produce. I'm quite curious as to what we will look like if the environment begin to take a more dominant role in our shaping.
