I am officially on vacation.
Whee!!!
I am also officially pissed off with copy protection. Now, I'm the copy protection/artist rights/intellectual property nazi.
But all I wanna do is copy a bunch of my legitimately purchased CDs over to my legitimately purchased iPod so I can have a bigass random playlist of my entire legitimately purchased CD collection on the seven-ish hour drive I've got...

There is a special level of hell reserved for anybody who spoils Harry Potter for me or anybody else before I have a chance to read it.
At the time of the last one's launch, my then-gf and I made getting to the bookstore the very first order of the day (that involved quite a walk back then, in my pre-Fleamobile days). I let her...

In retrospect, that headline is hilarious.
I would have been pissed then, but it makes me laugh now, just because of the sheer audacity.
I just finished it. I don't plan to breathe a word about it to anyone unless THEY start the conversation and let me know exactly where they are. I'm really good at not giving things away, even unintentional things like using certain adjectives (slow, depressing, uplifting, etc).
I avoided the internet, SG, and my email. I'm glad they released it on a Saturday because I didn't want to chance someone at work crowing about it.
OOtP was ruined for me, so I was extra-paranoid this time.

Apparently the T.O. star's reviewer stayed up all night Friday and had a review up by very early Saturday morning.
And I'm waiting until either the paperback comes out or someone is willing to lend me their copy. so I might have to be careful for a considerable period of time.

It is so hot out.
I don't mean warm or humid or uncomfortable. I mean it's can't sleep 2 in the morning 'holy shit i think i'm gonna die' 'i don't know how much water my body can physically hold' hot.

the one I'm scared of the most
won't you scare me up a little bit of love?
I have a very similar white stripes story. I had a copy of the "white stripes" album from a while back, and I didn't like it very much at the time. I loved 7 nation army but wasn't about to invest in the full album, esp. after I heard hardest button. Then a workmate made a copy of elephant and told me that I must listen to it (I know you hate copying, but it in this case it lead me to go straight out and buy get behind me satan and white blood cells. Now even the girl who sits behind us and previously listened only to HIllary Duff likes 'my doorbell'. They may actually be universally liked.

Yesterday (after a delicious nacho breakfast), I bought a joystick.
A joystick.
I haven't owned one of those since I had a Commodore 64.
And yet, here it is. On my fucking desk.
It's like I've discovered a hitherto unknown rung downwards on my descent into total geekhood.
The best part was when the girl called today and I excitedly explained that,...

All hail commander superflea of the 11th airborne geek squad!!
Truly excellent homemade nachos require the following, in addition to the chips n' salsa:
Frank's Red Hot "Chile n' Lime" sauce
Sargento shredded "Nachos and Tacos" cheese
Club House Tex-Mex seasoning
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
I also prefer to go a grade lighter than you would on the salsa (ie mild instead of medium if that's your bag) and letting the extra spices do the work. Just me...

well yeah but look at all the stuff on that list. You could never have made a decent stab at accomplishing all of them. So better just do one thing really well rather than spreading yourself too thin,

So the girl and I went out to see Batman today, although I will admit it was more because Land of the Dead isn't showing in town yet.
I'd heard good things and was really interested in checking it out, and I thought it was fantastic. Better than Spiderman... maybe not quite as awesome as Spiderman 2... but still pretty freaking fantastic.

Ok, here are my Batman rants:
-I'm totally with you on the fight scenes, they gave me a fucking headache.
-I've said it before and I'll say it again, why was Alfred a better critical thinker then "The World's Greatest Detective"? Batman has always been more than gadgets and intimidation. His mind has always been his best weapon (for that matter, so has Ra's Al Goul's). So why was he a thug with a couple of neat theater tricks, prototype gadgets and martial arts? Where was his brain?
-The pacing was awkward. The first half hour was nothing but jarring flashbacks. I followed them and understood the narrative, it just got annoying to constantly have to jump back and forth between the past and the present.
-The Batmobile sequence. Let me get this straight, he goes through years of intensive training to learn the art of invisibility...just so he can run a souped up hummer thorugh anything in his way? If that's the case, why bother being invisible at all? You're driving a fucking M1A1 Abrams through a crouded city! Is The Wayne Foundation going to pay for all the damage that car did? The reason the "Bat-Tank" worked in Dark Knight Returns is because he wasn't trying to be subtle, or stealthy. He was making a stand and a statement. That car was meant to put the fear of god into the street gangs. This one was meant to give us the obligatory car chase while convincing fanboys that Miller's ideas were being used. I'm sorry, it's true.
- I'm fully convinced that David Goyer is a hack writer. The only thing that saved the first 2 Blade movies was the acting and directing. This script was a bunch of one-liners and plot devices. If you're going to crib from the best (Miller) then do it all the way, don't do this half-assed shit and add some of your shlock into the mix too
-Gordon driving the Batmobile
-Let me make sure I'm following this, the train had the device on it that would cover Gotham in fear toxin if it got to the Wayne Foundation building. So they destroy the train...by crashing it into the Wayne Foundation building
Definately an entartaining flick, but it's not even my favorite comic book movie of the year so far. Hell it's not even my second. Those go to Sin City and Constantine respectively.

I think you might actually like the new album, too. The first single is totally a red herring, but on the rest of it, I don't know... I don't think they've ever been less concerned with being a rawk band than on this album.
Actually, if that single does it for you, so would their first album--take a listen to "Broken Bricks", "The Astro", and "Jimmy The Exploder" and tell me you're not in love.

I really just don't have a lot to say right now.
That's not a good thing or a bad thing.
It just is.
The weather can be quite lovely where I am. I need to be outside more. I should buy a bike.
And I need to turn the computer off more and pick up a guitar.

You too. I miss having all my friends right there, and ya know what? Bookmarks sucks. I like having a buncha purple names that I can easily click on to see what you are up to.
The girl and I spent a lovely day together, after a somewhat less lovely day in which my own rumination on turning 30 this year and how it made me feel old somehow got translated into a perceived stab at her. She's two years my senior, and has never thought of herself as old. I certainly don't blame her - we're both pups.

What we do have is an all you can eat KFC/Taco Bell. Now that's the good stuff.
