So my dad set out today with 2 friends for a 15 day hiking trip in ANWR, I was going to house sit for him.

Then I get a call close to quitting time from him, to come and pick him up at the crash collision shop. Dumbass hit a moose near Talkneetna at 60 MPH. I come over, his Saturn's windshield and front of...

Hey, watch out!.

Sorry about the moose incident. My family has plowed its share of deer in Ohio. The worst was actually the one my brother hit, that then got up and limped away. Ick.

"Dude, you're obsessed. Why do you hate the French so much?"

France opposes UN Sudan sanctions
France says it does not support US plans for international sanctions on Sudan if violence continues in Darfur.

The UN Security Council is due to discuss a US draft resolution imposing sanctions on militias accused of "ethnic cleansing" against non-Arabs.

The US also hinted that the sanctions could be...

"Turns out France's nation oil corporation is also the majority stakeholder in development of Sudan's newly found oil deposits. An embargo would mean losing all of the business involved in developing those resources, natch.

Again, the amorality and cynicism of the French government never fails to appall."

What do you think an American oil corporation would do?!?

Bought a new guitar today. Haven't had a steel six string acoustic for several years. I liked Seagulls when I tried them out in music shops in the states, but no one sells them here.

So every now and then I go into music stores looking for a new guitar for $300-$400, but nothing ever grabs me. Finally found one today, a Taylor Big Baby....

Hey stock - would you mind adding a blurb to that article that you submitted just saying where and when that study was done? I know you linked the .pdf file at the end but it wasn't entirely clear to me.

Thanks.

Nice! Now that's class.

i disagree. the left is far too tame or misses the point. images like the one above symbolize a lame kind of stab into aggressiveness (appropriating a Goya painting and putting George Bush's head on it just lazy and ineffective).

The truth is that the democrats are simply not as savvy in the art of propaganda as the republicans are (the GOP have centuries of religious fear-mongering to teach them how its done).

Anyway, the left isn't nuts, just ineffective and out of date.

The right, on the other hand, is certifiably INSANE.

In Fairbanks.

This place is so sparsely populated compared to ANC. The traffic is very light, which is very nice.

I've been here many times, but always just passing through, and usually only seeing the university district of town (where I am right now).

Fairbanks is.....really dull. And hot. But I am liking my new job orientation at the saw mill. It's owned and run...

Went shopping today, saw many cases of lobsteritis. It's been really sunny and warm, and everyone was outside getting roasted by the sun.

Going to Fairbanks for a week tomorrow for work. Not looking forward to it. It's been about mid 70's to 80F here, which is pushing my tolerance for heat. Up in Fairbanks, away from the cool ocean, it usually gets to be...

I saw this thing on PBS the other day about how the rising tempature up there is wreaking all kinds of havoc on the local ecosystems and stuff; they were talking about how all the shurbs on the tundra are growing much faster than the grasses, flowers, etc. and really upseting the natural balance of everything.

me..my natural body temp ranges from 1-3 degrees below the average human body tempature; heat's just fine with me...as long as it doesn't get all muggy and sticky puke

Holy shit, I nearly hit a brown bear with my car today eeek

I was driving down the Seward Highway to go shooting this morning. After Portage past Ingrahm Creek, a freaking brown bear charged out of the woods onto the highway, directly in front of me. I was going about 65, had to swerve out of its way. That has never happened to me before...

It was a depressing time. There was record unemployment (nearly 10% of the workforce).

The old manufacturing industries of the North closed to be replaced by Yuppie service industries n the South - leaving the country divided.

Maggie took on the unions and broke them, but it was a very bloody fight.

She privatised Britains nationalised industries forcing prices up and she tried and failed to introduce poll tax.

In short it was horrible, she was a bitch - but she brought Britain out of the fifties. She did a lot of good, but quite a bit of damage too.
uptight:
For a real insight into the torpor of Thatchers Britain, listen to Ghost Town by the Specials.

Actually, the fact that she made us all so depressed, brought out some great bands...New Order, The Smiths...in fact I don't think Indie music and alternative comedy would have happened if it wasn't for Thatch. More things to be grateful to her for!

Back from Homer. It was nice to get out of town for a while. Did a lot of fishing, did some schlub work offloading boats, and generally having a good time. It's a nice little town, and has definitely grown since I've been there last, 5 years ago.

i just wanted to say i appreciate you sharing your opinions on the 'Why support Bush' thread. i do generally disagree them, but i certainly respect them. my intent on starting that thread was to gain a better and genuine perspective on why people continue to support this administration. other than unitelligible rants that both parties are guilty of (e.g. "i support him so we can kick their ass and take their gas") or the usual cop out which is based solely on party affiliation "because i'm a republican, and i've never voted any other way" (democrats are guilty of this as well), instead of listening to the issues of all sides and making decisions based on the information gathered and analyzed. the city i live in, like the boards, is overwhelmingly liberal, so i sit around listening to the same banter over and over; i like to hear the other side occasionally. so anyways thanks for the information, that was precisely the input i was seeking. sorry for the slag you received i should have know it would be a culmination of rediculous insulting comments.
