Wow...I can't believe that almost none of you know what Where's George is!
I truly am the geekiest person on this site.
Okay...let me take you guys out of the "Chic Geek" realm of comic books, video games, and technology for a second and let us venture further into the depths of pure, unadulterated geekdom. Dare I use the word....nerdy.
Note: Those of you who are Actuaries need not continue. You have most likely explored levels of geekiness unbeknownst even to me. You just keep on studying to reach FSA and finding new ways to make math harder.
Where's George is a currency tracking website used predominately to track United States One dollar bills. You may have come across bills stamped with the website address or little messages in the past and thought nothing of it. Well, the truth is, there are thousands of people (like me!) who spend several hours each week looking for "Georges", marking new bills, and registering them on the site to see where they go. They use this formula...
100* ( SQRT(LN(Bills Entered)) + LN(Hits + 1) ) * [1 - (Days of Inactivity / 100)]
...to determine one's "George Score". Users with high scores get mad props as well as some pretty nifty bragging rights.
Truth be told, the site is fun and quite addictive. It is really interesting to see how far a single bill can travel in the span of a few weeks. Some users will post details about where and how they got the bill or what condition they found it in. I have actually come across bills that have been to Japan!
Also, if you are a big fan of statistics and probability (sit down Actuaries...I thought I told you guys to stop reading?) then there are a number of charts and reports that breakdown your "hits" by series, month, block letters, location, and pretty much whatever else you'd want to know.
So that is what Where's George is. Perhaps one of you will come across one of my dollars in the future. *psssss* I handwrite all of mine and mark them with hearts and stars; they are hard to miss!

"Where's George? does not encourage the defacement of U.S. Currency. The law defines 'illegal' defacement as defacement that renders bills unfit to be re-issued."
So no...it is not illegal.
