Turned in my bottles at the local homebrew store for entry into The 28th Annual Heart of the Valley Homebrewers Oregon Homebrew Festival. It's a qualifier for the masters as well. I submitted samples for the sweet stout style and specialty. Same beer though, with the addition of roasted buckwheat making it qualify for the specialty category. I'm probably going to sign up to...

Yesterday was busy. I brewed my 80 shilling recipe authentically and it took all day. After my initial mash I took 2 gallons of that wort and put it on to boil. An hour and a half later I pulled off my second mash and put a gallon of that stronger wort to a boil. An hour and a half later I pulled off...

I'll say it again. If I ever make it out your way, I want some of that beer, dammit.
I'm gonna go buy a 50 pound sack of base malt, most likely one called Simpson's Golden Promise. It's suitable for all scottish ales and any beer with need for a mellow, approachable base characteristic with good fullness and round characteristics. So to me that means a 70/80 shilling and an IPA. The scotch will be all base with a few percent of mild chocolate...

Also, I just googled gravity brewing systems and steam firing, and then realized that I don't have the first goddamn clue about making beer aside from what I saw Alton do on the TV.
meatpieboy:
Who says "the TV"? God.
My sister found herself a homebrewin' boy who works in the Summit warehouse. He has given me beer. I approve of him.
Keep workin' on that weight, sir. It's impressive.

So I have a theory about Matthew McConaughey. Basically it's like this; He is Jimmy Dean. You know, the sausage guy and country singer. But how? Simply put, time travel. Sometime in the near future Mr. McConaughey will accidentally craft a time travel device while trying to engineer a high capacity nitrous-clearing electronic bong from a snorkel, a blow dryer, and an old Wet Vac....

I would like to know that. Thank you for telling me. Did you get my text?
Just got back from the hop farm where I purchased some rhisomes to get my own hop garden going. I picked up a Northern Brewer, Cascade, and a Santiam plant. The Santiam is the oddest as it's a rare hybrid of Tettenanger bred right here in Corvallis. I had to drive down a cow trail in my little vdub to get down to the farm....

I went to the doctor voluntarily for the first time in about thirteen years today. Long story short, I got some steroids for my honker. It may clear up my sinuses. If not, I plan to buy a cordless drill and a copy of Time Life How-to: Trepanning. I also discussed my fitness plan with her a bit and we seemed to agree that what...

Between this and the Wilford crack you're skating on thin ice, Slim.

Das Twinkiebrau is in the bottle, lurking dangerously. I brewed another beer this morning, a sweet stout. I used a ton of chocolate malt and it made the house delicious. I was away getting a growler and when I came back I thought it smelled just like hot cocoa. Mmm.
I made pasta e fagioli last night. So tasty. Class starts again on Monday. Shit,...

While others waste spring break on frivolous pursuits, you are making the world a better place by brewing beer. Very commendable.
I pulled a 100% on my third midterm in process engineering. That really helped pull the grade up, as did a low A on my big-ass term paper. Pretty happy with that. Still shitting tacks waiting on the Physics grades. Shitpoo.

MOST OF MY BLOGS CONSIST OF MY E-BAY AUCTIONS SELLING MY WORN UNDERWEAR AND BABBLING ABOUT PEOPLE WHO I THINK ARE MAD. I AM SUCH A BAD-ASS BECAUSE I INCOHERENTLY TALK ABOUT NOTHING ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO I THINK ARE MAD AND TELL THEM I DON'T CARE. I HAVE NOTHING INTERESTING IN MY LIFE TO TALK ABOUT.

I like the magic pipe, as well. But didn't want to misrepresent his skillz.

Finals are done and over. Thank shit. The only one I have any worry about is Physics, because his tests are such major fuckers and the final was no exception. When class averages are in the 50's on tests, you should really rethink them. But no, he just curves the shit out of it. Most people I've talked to are happy just to pass.

Wine in the Western World certainly sounds promising. Will you be drinking it as well as reading about it?
