There are definitely a lot of internal changes in one's 20's, but what I was getting at was that "I don't give a shit what you think" confidence that comes when you're a little older, and that self-possessed quality we attain (even though I don't believe in the inherent existence of self, but that's another discussion). OK, I'm bipolar, so in my 20's I was in and out of fucking hospitals all the time, rapid cycling like a motherfucker ~ talk about internal changes! I have noticed that girls in their teens and 20's today are more empowered than when I was in high school, so perhaps I shouldn't be rubbed the wrong way when people assume I'm 19-23. They say I don't look or act 35, but what is a 35 year old supposed to act like? Perhaps if I'd taken the yuppie path I would have a different mode of expression (not just aesthetically) today. I certainly hope I won't get less "pliable" as I get older. It would be weird to just "stop".
Btw, I originally had Echo and the Bunnymen under 'favorite band', too. I saw them with the Psychedelic Furs last year.
(Richard Butler of the Furs is the -nicest performer in the world-, smiling and shaking everyone's hand like he was running for President Gas or something.)
