Some time ago I read a very touching book; "Beautiful" by Katie Piper. Katie was a model who became the victim of an acid attack arranged by a man she dated.
This was one of those stories that sticks with you. I cried at places and laughed at places when I read it. It had a really strong impact on me.
The thing that made the story so inspiring was how she has really done the best of a bad situation, increasing the awareness of how people with burns and scarring are treated and perceived and how she really tries to change that. Instead of being a depressing story it turned out to be a really positive one that made me question certain things about myself.
I also watched a documentary about her. It's amazing how people can go through stuff like this and still laugh and have a sense of humor. I really recommend the book.
