die Klinge von Damocles
Somewhere in the art dept's mind, this Cabaret isn't shocking or edgy enough. ( it's amazing the reaction to one bad revue...) And to rectify this, they brought in a huge nazi banner for us to add to the show ( Some point in Act 2 I guess ) But, it seems they've changed thier minds, but not.
So this long 5 foot by 20 foot Nueremburg style Swastika flag floats way up the fly gallery. ( The Swastika on the banner itself is about the size of a bus poster, it's HUGE.... ) Moving ever so gently in the slight breeze from the air condition vents. Occasionally even being dramatically lit up by flares from instruments and reflected light from scene changes. Awaiting its debut performance which will probably never come.
And it's really weirding us all out. Before this, all we had where a few nazi armbands to deal with, and we'd all been making Dr. strangelove gags to each other backstage to cut the tension of seeing that particular symbol every night. But, this huge thing is like the evil eye watching all of us at every moment. Or rather, I can't stop seeing it for it's past existance of horror and memory.
If the Art dept doesn't give us a cue for the banner we get to quietly take it down at the end of the week.
I can't wait......
