Feeling sad today, but it's a comfy sadness. Sometimes you just have to.

I HATE it. I made an ass load of money on Saturday, but I really just couldn't drag myself in there again. Something about the atmosphere is fucked in there, I just can't quite put my finger on it. I have to go in again tonight, though. All of my stuff is there. I think my shift started at 11 a.m. today....oops.

Lolita is taking me forever to read because I keep re-reading and re-reading. The fun Nobokov seems to be having in the melifluous prose makes every sentence delectable. How has everyone not read this book?

I don't think it can work as a movie. The language itself is so seductive. The most mundane descriptions become somehow sexy because the rhythm and flow of the words...

I got a job as a file clerk at a law firm that a friend of a friend works at as a paralegal. I'm really excited about it, because it's actually the perfect job for me.

I think it has been too long since I read that book to be able to have coherent thoughts on it. Which is unfortunate... Maybe I should read it again.

I can't say for certain, I wasn't around back then, but thinking of the publishing industry in specific rather than American culture in general, I think that the major houses were a lot more daring with the materia they would print back then. These days, I think the fear of hysterical backlash from bible-toting fundamentalists considerably shortens the list of topics that a company may sink money into.

Perhaps it is the culture of blame that has changed in society since the 50's. I can imagine Lolita published and only stirring up a small cloud of conservative sentiment over its material. I also imagine that these days, a lot of King James Version quoting middle Americans would blame it for the teen pregnancies at the local high school, as well as the downfall of morality in general and Janet's half-time show nipple extravaganza.

Hmmm, that leads me to another thought. Lolita isn't on a lot of banned book lists. At least not near the tops of them - but then I don't of a single high school teacher who wouild touch that book at school. Usually those lists are generated by parents who are upset over what teachers are assigning as reading material. Honestly, the book hardly comes up at all in discussion outside of university circles.

Sorry for this ramble, I just got on a roll.

Having no responsibilities is great, but sometimes it's hard to tell people no when you have shit you need to get done. I've been seeing a lot of people I didn't see during the school year, but socializing can get exhausting, and if I go too long without getting any work done I feel very restless and uneasy.

I'm training Willow. He knows sit and...

why do people have animals when they dont even try to take care of them... I love dogs but I don't have one because I am never home and it just isnt fair to them to not pay attention to them... besides they might bother bunbun...

smile

thanks for the bday wishes!

wish i knew what to say about the animals. me and my roomate talked about getting a pet, but being in college makes life so hectic and haphazard. i'm not sure it would be fair to the animal. still, if i did get a pet, i know i would treat it a lot better than some i've seen.

The "work" I am doing now is so hard that I have to make myself distracted in order to do it. Beer, TV, music, talking. Anything so I'm not alone with it.

Last night was painting night. I painted an earth goddess and a bleeding peach. I think my parents are going to hang them in their newly finished basement.

Willow is well, though if...

My dad is an Episcopalian. As far as denominations go, they're not bad. Pretty liberal, actually. But they still have horrible horrible politics going on, I guess like everything else.

And thanks for your comment, it was much more insightful than many others, and I appreciate it. smile

I realize I haven't updated in quite awhile. So here we go.

The past couple of weeks have been horrible as far as school is concerned. I pulled multiple all-nighters, had some good coversations, and abused prescription medications and beer. There are more important things to be doing, and it always weighs heavy on me when I can't do the things I really want to...

pet bunnies rule but its good to get a breed that is used to humans and are raised as pets... dont take the free bunny from someone that is usually dedicated to being a meat rabbit or a snake lunch.... they are sketchy and dont let ya hold them... even if you handle them from day one... on the other hand you get a small cute bunny and it makes hardly any noise is real cute to watch (especially when they clean their faces) and fun to have run around the house....

we have both.... bunbun is the latter version she tolerates being petted and held and occasionally she expects snacks like carrots, apples, celery, popcorn etc.... she even likes tortilla chips...
