I had a similar experience, only I was on a submarine and not in Korea. I just didn't have anything in common with my ship-mates and spent most of my off time in the civilian population.
See if you can find somebody who teaches English there. I've had friends that did that in Japan. I don't see ihow it would much different in Korea. Good luck!
