I am not a huge holidays kind of person. I want to get behind it, I really do, but I have worked virtually every birthday or holiday since I was 15. It's all been just another day.

And now, with the shit show that we are in the US, I especially am not sure how to get behind where our country has become. There is so much division between people that I am starting to hate seeing how people I have known for years have changed into who they are.

I can't find any patriotism behind blind ignorance, corporate greed, the dismantling of our country's values and hypocracy of our leaders ( or lack there of). I really am starting to believe tgat there is no American dream anymore, but a national nightmare.

Where have our values gone? Where has our pride gone? Where has our ability to relate and empathise with our neighbor gone? How did we lose everything that made us a shining beacon of " it's possible " to a lifeless dead bouy in shallow waters?

Today people will celibrate a holiday birthed in the blood of ideals that no longer ring loud in a melting pot of national pride and unity that we, the people, of all races, religions, thoughts, nationalities, creeds, and livelihoods are greater because of our differences and the bond that we all thrive because of who we are as a collective whole.

Today our ancestors weep because we piss on their hard fought and bleed memories and visions of being a country thatwould be one in brotherhood.

We built this country on the genocide of native Americans, mistrust of the crown of many countries in Europe, and discrimination of many cultures tgat were fighting to make us a stronger nation. We have a bloody and shameful past that we worked so very hard to make amends for. And we still had a long way to go.

But we were moving forward wether by inches or feet. We were moving forward. But no more.

My heart breaks for the many that fought and bled for us to ignore their sacrifices and marginalize their efforts to build a better future. My grandparents, my great grandparents, my immigrant great great grandparents deserve to be honored better. All of ours do.

My own heart weeps
