i've been listening to massive attack lately and i must say i'm growing quite fond of them. they make for perfect "walking alone at night down theobald's way in an introspective mood" music, as well as "i am doing no fucking work no matter what because i'm that damn shiftless" music. i don't know the name or album of my favorite track but i'm pretty sure it's on mezzanine. it's been in my head since i heard it in the subway (sandwich shop, not underground pedestrian walkway) on leather lane as they were listening to the greatest hits collection that day. i really should go in there more, because they have a respectably eclectic taste in music, or maybe just in employees. all i know is that when jeremy and i were in there a few weeks back we were privy to some cyprus hill.
massive attack is another band that followed the APC-process for me, that is to say i bought on of their cds but didn't really listen to it for awhile until sean got into them much later and borrowed said cd from me. this first happened with mer de noms, which i purchased in 1999 but failed to appreciate until 2002, only after i got into tool and craved more maynard. it doesn't hurt that it is an extremely decent album, too. we later repeated this with primus, although to be fair i was mad into "frizzle fry" at the time. i picked up a copy of "blue lines" by massive attack when i bought my giant cd folder to go to japan with...i may or may not have also purchased "i get wet" by andrew wk at the same time, but i think that one was a few weeks earlier. i'm still not especially fond of that album but it's got some decent songs on it. "mezzanine" and "100th window" are so astronomically better it amazes me. listening to them for the first time provoked that beautiful moment when you know you found exactly the kind of music you'd been looking for.
so in conclusion, massive attack = good.
p.s. i really wish splixx would send me my goddamned painting.
