In addition, I need a book. A really big non-fiction book. At least 400 pages. I know I have smart people in my friends list. Suggestions please.

So I'm going to start paring down the people in my life. Quantity =/= Quality.

Do you suck? You might be on the chopping block.

It's so beautiful that you're afraid of it. Like if you touch it, it will shatter and you'll have stolen it from the world.

It's like that.

I have to go play Army this weekend. I cannot describe to you how much I hate the Army Reserve. My unit is such a massive waste of tax dollars...

I watched the first two episodes of Torchwood this week.

I had to wake up at five this morning.

I have not yet fully decided what to make of it. I like SF but am not much into that flood of mystery series. Still the actors and the scripts are rather good.

I also like Fantasy but I rarely like to see it mixed.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
...except when one turns out to be the other like in the "Dragon Riders of Pern"

P.S.: I will send you a mail with a short story wink

curioustomcat:
I first read her in translation. I can not tell much of the writing style therefore.
I did like the the story and the ideas and how it all came round 180 degrees in the end without straining logic.

I do like Alan Dean Foster a lot. He always surprises with good books to rather plain movies.
China Mieville is fantastic for his weirdness and opening those strange worlds of his to easy access.
For style, I love Pratchett, especially in cooperation with Gaiman.

...and of course the classics: Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke, Dick etc
Each with his own strenghts and weaknesses.
