Well, the going-away party was a success, if my headache is any evidence.
The food came out great, lots of people dropped by to eat, drink, and be merry, and that's what it's all about, gang, so I'm pleased.
3 legs of lamb, barbecued Moroccan style, which means rubbed down with a compound butter made with mint leaves, cumin, coriander, cardamon, cinnamon, and cloves, with a cream sauce made with basically the same ingredients plus lime juice.
12 lbs of brisket, most of which was slow-smoked for a few hours, basted with a strawberry barbecue sauce I whipped up, and then Doug made up an unbelievable barbecue sauce with Jameson and Dr Pepper, and Thai peanut chili oil ... that was just sick. Some of the other brisket we blackened, which was also fantastic.
My seafood jambalaya (crawfish, scallops, and shrimp) came out damn near perfect, with some flavor tweaking I don't usually throw in there (let me just say that a stick of butter thrown in just as it's done cooking works wonders, but that wasn't the only key).
Mr Beef donated 3 lbs of Italian roast beef to the cause, along with, of course, a big bucket of jus and a bunch of hot peppers. I picked up some smoked provolone cheese and long french buns to round out those sandwiches, and they were as excellent as Mr Beef always is.
And for those that didn't want to entirely gorge themselves on meat, I made a pasta salad with balsamic vinaigrette (nothing terribly special, but not bad), and Doug had a pot of lobster black bean soup that he'd whipped up at 3.30am the night before while piss drunk, and that was some hot shit, for trues.
That about wraps it up, gang -- I get to spend the rest of this week packing shit up. Ho, ho -- am I ever looking forward to that
You know, it strikes me every time I move (this will be the 5th time in the last 3 years) that as nomadic as my lifestyle is, I really shouldn't own as much stuff as I do.
And with that, I'm suddenly hungry, so I'm off to round up some eats. Too bad the leftovers were all left over at Doug's place .....
