Earlier today I set out on a mission. Sun brewed southern style sweet tea was my objective. I went to the store and bought the biggest box of black tea I could find, sugar, and 1 gallon glass mason jar with a spout at the bottom for pouring. I forgot the lemons. When I came home there was a cloudless sky, and a beautiful, albeit muggy, day. I prepared my jar and loaded it up with teabags and water. Today's tea will be made without lemons. I found a bright spot in the sun and set my jar to down to brew.
30 minutes later, the cloudless sky turned grey and the rains came. A heavy southern rain. A windless downpour that left my flat yard a large muddy puddle. The rain fell fast and steady and soon my gutters were overflowing. I sat out front on my skateboard, under my front awning and watched the rain fall, and lamented my inevitable failure at making sweet tea. A steady waterfall from the gutter splashed a nearby puddle, soaking and muddying up my feet.
I did not find any deep analogy for the meaning of life from the result of today's events. No deep revelations were had. No poem needs to be written. All in all, it was not a beautiful life changing moment in my life. Perhaps I asked for lemons and life threw me one? No. No. Not at all.
The rainy season has arrived in Florida and I need to clean my gutters... and to buy lemons.
