Dude, i've been in the same position, the story here is a little different then in the dating sucks thread. Here's my opinion, you can know her, but, you can't fuck her and you can't let her walk all over you, but you can help her and let her cry on your shoulder, but you have to keep her at an arms length emotionwise so YOU don't get hurt. Its probably rough for her with the dad and the two kids. She's thinking of that before she thinks of a relationship. She's probably not wanting to complicate her life any more than it is already.
I do think she likes you, she's just afraid of the added stress a relationship might bring on. Like the others said, take it slow, show her you care and you're someone she can depend on when she needs it and someone she can have fun with when she's not having a bad day.
