So since i'm leaving this neighborhood and heading downtown in a few
days, I though i'd take a second to let you in on where I live.
It's a weird little residential community by the airport. The entire
section is about 5 square industrial blocks. It's called the rosemary
gardens. They have their own neighborhood association, and do all
kinds of weird events. From the ice cream social, when summer hits, to
the monthly yard sales, to the recycling weekends, it's almost like a
real neighborhood.
long story short, a big company bought a ton of land out here next to
the neighborhood, and when they were excavating the area they dug up
800 bodies/skeletons. The project halted, and they had some
specialists out and concluded that they had uncovered 800 4,000 year
old native american bodies. They also concluded that, according to
the way some of the bodies lay, it had to be some sort of war site.
This came as a big surprise and something had to be done to keep the
sanctity of their native culture. As a sort of homage, the
neighborhood had talks with the corporation and decided that a monument
of sorts would dawn the north side of the complex, providing a proper
burial, and remembrance of the war that these people had fought.
I stopped by recently after the whole thing was finished. They
installed a quaint little indian restaurant that stays open till 10pm,
so I grabbed a couple of veggie samosas, some tikki masala curry, and a
couple of pics.
This is the beginning of the burial site (the entire street is lined
with 50 foot palm trees that are perfectly groomed)

This is the inside of the main fountain. The turquoise and black was a
nice touch.

and that is a little story about my neighborhood.
on a side note, I caught a gopher raiding some plants outside the cafe
I had lunch at today. see if you can find it.
