II was just getting all weepy to opera.

I played music most of my life. I don't any more, and I dearly miss it sometimes.

I started piano when I was 5 and took lessons until I was 15. I started trombone when I was 10 and played until I was 18. I was in every top musical group available, and was usually lead. I was in the All State Orchestra and Jazz Bands several times. All my friends were musicians. Many, including two of my siblings, continued with it and made it their career: my brother is an orchestra director in Plano and is moving to Syracuse some of the best programs in the nation, my sister majored in french horn performance, her husband plays 5 instruments and leads a bluegrass band, one friend played Harp at Eastman and was then the harpist on the QEII and the QMII, another went to North Texas on bassoon and jazz sax and is now a director, another went to St. Olad on organ and is now a director, and there are many more who I'm not close with any more.

Every time I'm home I'm torn by pangs of jealousy and regret when I hear my friends and family performing. I feel like I missed out by deciding to quit after high school.

But, I was never serious, even back then. I rarely practiced. Maybe about 3 hours, a week. And I know I wouldn't be happy with a life in music which often requires 3 hours, a day.

It's one of those dreams. One of the many I have. I'll have to stay content listening to the talents and dedication of others.
