What you are feeling is probably the lanolin in the "antimicrobial rub." They are apparently pretty effective - better than antimicrobial soaps - if you start with clean hands. Personally I prefer washing my hands.

Some microbes are more resistant than others to various chemicals, but I wouldn't worry as much about it in the case of hand sanitizers, because no one's going to ask you to drink Purel to cure an infection.

Those sleeping in photos are fantastic! I think the raising hell then snuggling thing is an orange tabby personality trait. My orange monster does the same thing. Starting about 5am, he makes noise enough to wake me up, then keeps bugging me until I get up, and if I won't, just comes up on the bed and sleeps. Damn cats.
