My dog got let out the front door by accident yesterday - he went missing for the better part of two hours
I was so scared.
Ranger isn't very smart. He has wandered off before and I don't even know that he realises that he's lost. We just moved to this neighbourhood a few weeks ago, so there are so many new things to smell, I guess he couldn't help himself.
My brother and I each took off in different directions on our street, going about a block and a half in each direction, no luck. I went back to the house, grabbed his leash and set out on my own for twenty minutes. I asked the mail lady, and anyone I could find out walking or in their yards. I went back to the house, checked in with my brother, then took my car out and circled the neighbourhood for another half hour, no dice. I came back home, checked in again, grabbed a hoodie, then set out on foot again. I walked in a block in each direction, calling him & clicking his leash. Nada. I was near the elementary school when I saw a car driving slowly - I waved and the guy stopped and rolled down his window. He offered to drive up and around the block, meeting me on the next street over. We didn't have any luck, but he said he'd keep looking as he was a construction worker working on three houses in the neighbourhood. We parted ways and I started back up the hill towards my house, feeling the tears about to start. Awful thoughts started running through my head.
Then, all of a sudden, the guy in the car was back and said, "Hop in, someone said they saw him three streets over!"
*pause* Okay, I know it's dumb to get into a stranger's car... and if it was for anything other than my dog or an injured family member, I wouldn't do it. *unpause*
So I hop in and we see the mail lady, and she's pointing over to the mailbox, where my dog is standing, looking at her. He saw me and wagged his big dumb tail, then lowered his tail, because he knew he was in trouble. I clipped his leash on him, told him I was disappointed, then gave him a hug and a scratch on the ears. He lolled his tongue out in appreciation.
I thanked the guy in the car and the mail lady profusely. And took my dog home.

The new job as "Kennel Attendant" is going well. I don't think I'll be relaying the I-lost-my-dog story at work tomorrow though
I really do like it there, even if most of my job involves so much janitorial work (sweeping, mopping, double mopping, etc). The great danes are probably my favourite part. They live at the house on the property - the owners dogs. I've never really had much interaction with a dane before, except for random sniffs while out walking - so hanging out with these guys is a real treat for me. The younger one, Blue, looks quite a bit like Scooby Doo... only crazy hyper. I have a bruise on my thigh from where his tail whacked me as I gave him some pats.
I've been watching How I Met Your Mother a LOT lately. It's hilarious. My brother got me hooked on it. We smoke a bowl and just giggle and giggle. Our mom said she was happy that we like to spend so much time together... despite the pot. We're thinking of going to see Friday the 13th tonight (though there's no way I could go stoned, because I'd be too scared). I don't like smoking pot often, really, but life has been mega stressful lately.
