The Road Trip
(well, the next one
)
I'm sitting in a hotel room at a ski resort in Vernon, British Columbia. I arrived here after almost 12 hours on the road (including pee breaks, two meals & gas twice). I'm effing beat!
The trip was generally uneventful no major construction or accidents or anything that could cause a delay. Didn't see any mountain goats crossing the road like last time
One thing that really stood out though was the amazing glitch-in-the-matrix-blue of the lakes & rivers along the way. I've driven through the same pass three times before this, and never have I ever seen it like I saw it today. I actually thought at first that I had taken a wrong turn somewhere - the amazing blues & greens looked out of place - isn't it supposed to be grey & white??? Just gorgeous.
... my very buggy windshield
We got into town just after 8pm, only to find that there was not a single hotel that would accept the three of us plus baby George. In fact, there weren't even any vacancies in hotels at all, puppeh or no puppeh. Apparently there's a baseball tournament in town or something like that insane. I went to the hotel I had intended on staying in (I didn't call ahead to book because I didn't know how far I would be able to drive, last time I made it about 250km further). Let me just say that the customer service I've had at every single Super 8 Motel in the past year has been stellar - one in Alberta, two in BC, and now this one. There were no vacancies, but the lady at the front desk called the other hotels in town looking for a spot for us. She called hotels just out of town. She called hotels three hours away. We were just about to give up I figured I might be able to drive to the ferry terminal in Vancouver through the night and just crash for a while before the first ferry, that, or pull over and sleep in a parking lot. The lady took one more chance and called the ski resort - they had rooms at a wicked awesome off-season rate
I was so thankful. I'm totally going to write a letter to the company saying how amazing I think they are.
So here I am in the hotel. There is no internet service (without a password from the front desk, which was closed by the time I got up here) - I'm just typing this on a word program now, I'll post it when I find some service.
... Georgie snuggled up to my helmet
Day Two
I'm on the ferry to Victoria from Vancouver right now. Still no wireless service (well, nothing public anyway). My night did NOT go well. My roomies kept me up almost all night, and then Georgie decided to pee at the foot of the bed - just a little dribble, but enough to make me wake up and say, "Eeeeugh."
Later on.
I'm at my mom's place & was able to grab a signal
Back to the morning - very early start. Bleurg. The good news about that is that the sooner we left, the sooner we'd get there. The first part was beautiful travelling along through the Okanagan (no sign of Ogopogo
). But then, oh wow, did I ever see something
