This is the first Independence Day that I don't feel like I want or should celebrate in a long time. Too many fractures on this country currently that causes this divide in what we are and what we should be. Very disheartening for myself. Even seeing it creep into long standing friendships within my social groups. I wish and hope that some sort of reconnect can occur... There is a base humanity within us all and we do have some common ground as long as we stop scorching and salting the land.
I just don't see it on this particular day.
