Before I begin my new journal, I just want to give all of you this:
*hugs*
that is all.
Now, time for the update:
this is great.
One of the girls at work is from Asia (I work at a University pub, so a lot of my coworkers are foreign students) and her English is still a bit rough, to say the least. She tends to be a bit more blunt than she means to be sometimes because she hasn't yet learned all of the nuances of our language, which we all know is one of the hardest languages to learn.
Well, this morning I walked into work, with my hair and makeup all done up and I was feeling fairly good about how I looked. I was chatting to few of our coworkers, when she came up to me and asked me if I was wearing foundation. I answered yes, and asked her why she asked. She replied, "your face looks too white. Your foundation is too pale." At this point I was a bit shocked, but thought it was funny, so I laughed and explained to her that my foundation actually matched my skin perfectly, and I just happened to be that white. (Calling my skin 'ivory' would be a gross misnomer. I think my skin is whiter than milk...I'm borderline albino.) She then informed me (with a smile on her face, she thought she was helping) that if I applied some lipstick maybe I wouldn't look so pale. Well, my loveys, I WAS wearing lipstick, three shades darker than my lips. I was only able to gasp out a murfled 'thank you' and wipe the stunned look off of my face, made worse by the incredulous stares of my other coworkers.
The moment she walked away, I burst out laughing...I had no idea how I was supposed to take it. I know she was only saying it to offer some advice (I HOPE) but...

...

...anyway, the general consensus on my new hair is that it sucks.
Which I'm aware of.
However, I promised my grandma that I would dye it blonde for a year becasue that's the last thing she ever asked me to do. So I'm stuck with it, because I loved her more than I've ever loved anyone except my mother and I want to honor her wishes.
Do me a favor?
Tell someone you love that you love them.
Give them a kiss for me.
Please.

Just wanted to say that dyeing your hair to honour your nanas wishes is such a wonderful gesture-esp considering you are not so keen on it! Your nan was and is a lucky woman to have a granddaughter who loves her so much smile As for the pale makeup thing-lol that happens to me too,Im another member of the not anaemic but looks it brigade...sounds like the woman at work was trying to be polite,a japanese woman once told me that I was lucky because being pretty is all problems and I wont need worry. Gee.Thanks. LOL She was right, but still, subtlty is a GOOD thing to learn smile
