In this update:
ONE) Changes made to two extensions, PLEASE UPGRADE
TWO) Two new fabulous extensions that are actually USEFUL! (repeat from last entry)
THR) Crux ponders her future in the work world
FOU) Awesome pictures Crux dug up cleaning her room (and that's just the beginning, I'll be posting more old junk all week and next week)

Feel free to skip a number if you're not interested.

ONE) Ok, you will need to update BOTH the Hidden Edit and the Extra Smilies extensions if you're using them (instructions here).

I've improved both as well as fixed a problem in each.

* The hidden edit extension wouldn't work if the CODE tag was used in a post, but that's been fixed and the code improved so it should work fine everywhere.

* There was a bad problem with the smilies one. With the old version if you went to edit a journal entry, the spacing of the text in the box would be all messed up with a bunch of extra line breaks and stuff. It won't do that anymore now that I've fixed it. A little improvement to the code too.

p.s. you may have noticed that the orange smiley you might've posted around has disappeared. Just update the smilies plug-in and you'll be able to post it again, but the old ones are GONE FOREVER

TWO) And now I've cooked up a TWO BRAND NEW EXTENSIONS! (This is a repeat from last entry.)

First, the Extra Tags extension smile Now wherever you edit anything, there are more options in the "insert" menu that lets you insert the special SG tags. Not only does it force the full list everywhere, it adds a couple of the "secret" ones that are never listed anywhere. Try it out and you'll see that the tags work everywhere. You can quote somebody in a journal comment, use spoilers in groups, the whole deal.

Next, Edit Old Entries. This will add an "EDIT" link to all of your own journal entries, next to the timestamp at the top. This allows you to edit any journal entry you've ever posted, even really old ones.

With these fabulous new additions, I'm thinking once again of advertising my extensions on the boards, but I've decided to keep the smilies one a relative secret. I can see that one becoming a headache not only for staff but for me as well, with people requesting smilies left and right. So I'm going to wait until I have a different journal entry up where I don't mention the smilies thing before I go posting about the extensions on the boards.

I've been working on an extension that's supposed to give SGs a snazzy starry pink background to their own posts (since their own posts are pink just like all the other SGs making them harder to spot), but because of the way the site is coded, it's tricky. I know what I need to do but I'm having problems and I'm too frustrated to keep working on it for now.

THREE) But man, working on these extensions I see that I just turn into a machine when I'm programming. I have a hard time getting back into a normal frame of mind after I've been working on something (and I generally code for hours straight, I started today at around 11am and stopped at maybe 3). I could barely use the microwave after I finally stopped because I was still in "programming mode".

To change the subject sort of, I finally managed to take one small tiny step towards getting a job. I called a company to find out to whom I should address my cover letter, and actually started writing it. Obviously I need to do a whole lot more than that if I want to get a job, but hey, at least I managed to accomplish SOMETHING. I've been too terrified to do anything at all, for weeks. Surprisingly, the thought of making a phone call induced less stress and anxiety than the thought of writing a cover letter.

Now, the guy who took my call sounded bored and perhaps even miserable. I don't know what to make of that. If he hates his job there, will I hate it too? But his job must be very different from what mine would be if I actually managed to get hired; he probably works in HR and answers the phone all day. It sounded as though he thought I was stupid to call in about that. But I may be reading too much into his bored miserableness.

It's clear to me that I AM hireable (sp) because it's like I was born to program. I'm sure if I can just get past my dumb anxiety and express this fact to potential employers, I'd have myself a job.

FOUR) Now, you are all in for a treat. I've been cleaning my room, finally, after letting it become horribly disgusting and filthy, and in so doing I discovered some brilliant old photos and things. I will spend a lot of time scanning the stuff in, because I have to share. It's great stuff. I will start with a few photos now, and I'll post all the rest of the stuff over the course of the remaining week and the next (or more, if it takes that long). I have a million things to scan now so it's going to take a while.

Number one, me, senior year of high school (1999), when my hair was at the longest I ever let it reach. Only a few weeks or so after this picture, I chopped it all off... in a fit of teen angst, I guess. Really, I just wanted some attention, and for a whole day I got it, all the people who usually ignored me were so surprised at the sudden change that they couldn't stick to their cliquish dismissal of me and had to say something. But after that day, it was back to being "the invisible girl" again, for the remainder of my high school career. Yawn.

I do have the picture taken right after the cut, but as usual I don't like how I look in it, so for the moment I'm not going to share it. For now this is a good enough example of how short I went.

Now the following three pictures are rather strange, and stranger still that I found them all in the same group. I'll just copy paste the captions I wrote for them here, since I practically did the same for the last photo.

I'm pretty sure this was supposed to be a picture of the fireworks people were setting off outside my dorm one evening, probably after a game (we were a rioting school) but instead I managed to capture the screen and a reflection off the glass because I don't know how to take pictures.

A vast expanse of whiteness. Is it snow? An overcast sky perhaps? No... it is, in fact... my ceiling.

I'm a little afraid to post this photo because you're all a bunch of sick pervs. It's NOT what it looks like. It's my mouth and tongue. It is of course very suggestive... but if you can stop being gross it's actually quite an interesting photograph. Kind of like an O'Keefe painting, huh?

So there you go, an introduction to the photos I found today. The next stuff I'll share is more ordinary stuff, my cats, the old juggling club... but they're all great photos smile I can't wait to share smile

p.s. A lot of changes to my personal pics folder. Removed some things. Renamed it and gave it a new description. Edited most of the captions. As you can see I'm pretty down on myself at the moment, which is annoying for you guys. It's just been an icky month and hopefully my negativity will pass. I was more productive today than I've been in a long time, so I'm trying to be cautiously optimistic.

But whatever. BO-ring. To end on a positive note my room is just such a happier place now that it's almost all clean. I desperately need to vacuum now that I can actually see the floor because there's literally months' and months' worth of cat hair and my hair matted in there (disgusting, I know, I'm not sure how I lived either) but that will be remedied very soon. Sabrina's new favorite spot is the now-clean top of my trunk. It's looking good smile
