I had never heard of Gwen Guthrie before I stumbled across this video on YouTube. I was looking for covers of "(They Long To Be) Close To You," a Burt Bacharach tune made famous by The Carpenters. I found this wonderful, seemingly forgotten gem, an R&B-style interpretation of the classic hit. I have since heard that this is Mr. Bacharach's favorite version of the song....

In a couple of weeks, I'll be going grey. I have been checking back here from time to time, looking around the boards and groups, and I have to say that I don't think I'll miss this place. I'll miss my friends, definitely, but I've already exchanged email addresses with some of you and have invited you to visit my new journal (now listed in...

Ooof. Sorry to hear school is such a pain right now. That's a hell of a thing to overcome sometimes. But, like you said, you have MollyMolly to help you out. Take that friendship and let it help.

I hope you're doing better soon. Hang in there.

Did you ever play that game Okami for PS2? I think you might like it. It reminds me of Zelda in many ways.

So I saw my psychiatrist tonight. I've been feeling pretty depressed since I stopped the Wellbutrin (an antidepressant). Also, my panic attacks have increased both in frequency and intensity. Things aren't looking good in that department. However, I am determined to get through this without medication. My psychiatrist seemed skeptical at first and couldn't understand why I would elect to go through this without meds,...

I can empathise on two levels. During my college years I was in recovery from Major Depression and substance abuse, and for the dual reason of this and of finances, there were times I just had to stay out of school and work for a while. Whatever decision you make, perhaps your mom's reaction won't be as negative as you think. I mean, doesn't she know what you have to deal with?

I took several courses toward the MCSE certification, but first I had to complete A+ and Network+ certs. I was seriously lost at first in A+ but eventually things began to fall in place for me and I ended up with a high percentile score. I'm sure this is more basic than the Architecture course, but maybe analogous. Give it some time and I'm sure you'll make the right choice. kiss

Good luck and be strong. You know where I am if you need to talk anything out.

I'm back now. At first, I really missed this place a lot, but that was because of all the attention I was getting with that icky persona I was developing. No more of that. That's not me. I want to be myself, even if it means people don't talk to me as much. That's what it's like for me in real life, anyway.

After a...

Welcome back!

Animal Crossing has been usurped in the Funster household, as I have Viva Pinata on the 360 now. Imagine the gardening & bug collecting on AC writ large, and you get the general idea. It's annoyingly cute and just as addictive in its "ongoing maintenance" gameplay. I grew a poppy the other day and was probably way too pleased about it than a 30 year old married man should be. biggrin

Although, I do have a wifi dongle for my Wii, I could always get AC:WW back and start another town. I never got on with it too well after I kept getting visits from that pushy salesman. Does he ever go away?

I didn't know you could avoid him. blush

The new specs look great. Very nice choice. Its truly worth it to spend money on a good pair of glasses that look good and feel good. I think I spent $240 for mine, but I got a seriously deep discount and then managed to get some prescription RayBans for $100. Believe it or not, Sears optical department is quite the shit.

ANd thanks for the meds info. I'm hopefully going to be using them as a stepping stone. Times have been real bad of late and suicide has indeed crept in there. Not something I enjoy. Despair has been a near daily companion, allthough the past three days have actually been very good. I think a good session with my therapist and working on my First Step with my sponsor has really helped and given me a bit of a new lease.

I suppose I should update for the new year, right? MollyMolly and I had a great New Year's Eve, talking online as usual. The day had started off not-so-well, but things turned around and my time with Molly was just wonderful and happy. blush smile

This was the second New Year's Eve we spent online together. Much has changed since last time, and hopefully for the better....

It is that time of month when I am cheerfully reminded by Mother Nature that I am a woman. I am retaining water like a sponge on crack. I weigh almost five pounds more than I did a week ago. Not that I really mind the extra weight, but I feel like I'm wearing a fat suit. To say I feel logy is an understatement....

Congrats on passing your classes!!! Glad to hear you're feeling somewhat better, mentally. I found that it's nearly impossible to tell if a change in meds is helpful or not simply because there always seem to be several other causal elements that seem to enter the picture about the same time (e.g. passing your classes and being on break). But, it sounds like you are feeling better. And I know it's a huge pain in the ass (and I rarely took the advice to do it myself), but excercise helps. Best wishes! biggrin

Why didn't any of you warn me about the GLAUCOMA TEST!!! AUGH! *runs screaming*

In case you couldn't tell, I had my first ever (i.e. of my life) eye exam this morning. It was weird. The very nice young Asian doctor lady had me sit in a chair in a (kind of) low-lit room. She gave me a little thingy to cover my eye (all...
