I want to surround myself with things that make me happy. SG is not one of those things. I like my friends here, but the rest of the site can take a hike.
What should I do? As I've mentioned before, I've paid up until February next year. I'm probably going to want to renew my membership after that so at least I can tell people about my classes and hopefully graduating (spring commencement is in May, not June, by the way). But posting journals here is starting to feel like an obligation, and aside from my friends, that's really the only reason I'm here anymore.
I used to enjoy being on message boards, but now I hate even looking at them. I haven't actually posted on a message board in a while, now. I used to think that people on the Internet were better than people on the street. In some ways they are, but in other ways they're way worse. At least with people on the street, you don't have to deal with their awful personalities for very long, and with luck you'll never see them again. On a web site, you're faced with the same lovely people day in, day out.
I'm sick of it. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the Internet is not for me.

I'm quite misanthropic myself, so I completely understand where you're coming from. The anonymity of the internet exacerbates the inherent arrogance and self-righteousness in people. On the street, you may receive a look of condescension, though generally not much more than that. Give someone relative anonymity and the privilege of distance from reprisal and POOF!, instant asshole.
I wish you the best in your endeavors, whatever they may be.
I, too, feel obligated sometimes. I don't even have a great desire to be a model anymore, but I've paid through August of next year, so I feel like I might as well stay. I definitely avoid the boards unless I'm a little tipsy, and then I just stick with the silliness threads and act a fool there.
