It's hard to figure out what it means - it could be that things are randomly coming back up again for no reason at all, they could be coming up for a reason, or you may be ready to pull things back up for the only reason of coming to terms with it. I'm hoping it's the last one - things have really changed for you, even if the past here is just before you and MDF got together.
In terms of how to face things or what to do - that really depends on you. Some people need others, others will only do it alone. Some talk it out, others write it. Do whatever you think is best and see where it takes you.

The bad news is, you have to tell someone important in your life about these issues from the past...We don't count...sorry
...The someone has to be someone that you would not ordinarily want to talk to about this stuff...but once you do, those fears will go away...perhaps the dreams are telling you it's time...It worked for me...and is a lot cheaper than therapy...just harder...

That stuff is a real pain to clean - dry vacuuming it seems to work the best if you've got a shop vac or something that you don't mind getting dirty.
I have no idea what's the best way to seal it off - quickcrete and masonry would be pretty easy but it's a matter of getting everything out of the way so you can get up there to work.

We wish you luck .. we tried cutting out meat entirely from our diet ... worked for a while.
It only took us 5 meals to get through 4 lbs of pulled pork.
(well it'll probably be 7 or 8 meals, since I made enough pulled pork macaroni and cheese to last forever.)
