I have this problem.

See, my wife likes to try new things, and she has an open mind. For example, she might say something like, "You know, I think I'm going to start exercising my facial muscles. I found this website where they show you how to do it, and they say it might help prevent aging if you start doing it early." This is,...

Hmm. My boyfriend does the exact same thing. I can't stand it. But he just can't help it, either.

We have the same birthday. biggrin

Ha! My husband and I play that game all the time. And while I should find it really condescending, I have to admit that I kind of like it when he gives me the little "oh, lookie, isn't she cute?" response more than his "bahahaha, are you f'ing kidding?" response. Because then I feel smart AND cute. Which I am, but for some reason I feel less silly when I get that response because it doesn't make me feel like he's completely invalidating what I'm thinking. Sorry if that doesn't make sense.

A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. He may as well concern himself with his shadow on the wall. Speak what you think now in hard words, and to-morrow speak what to-morrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict every thing you said to-day....

I was, hehe. I just get paranoid and start hitting delete buttons sometimes. Usually under the influence. I forget who is who and why I think they're cool.

Thanks for re-friending me. biggrin

From _The_Golden_Apple_ by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson
[as extracted from pp.438f of _The_Illuminatus!_Trilogy_ compilation]

``Very nice,'' I said. ``But why did you bring me up here?''
``It's time for you to see the fnords,'' he replied. Then I woke up in bed
and it was the next morning. I made breakfast in a pretty nasty mood, wondering
if I'd seen the fnords, whatever...

I fixed the headboard of our bed today. This involved using nails, a hammer, and pliers. Clearly, I am a Man God. *grunt*

Actually, I got a lot of shit done today. Did the laundry, picked up the trash, gathered all the dirty dishes. See, we're trying to quit smoking. I haven't had a cigarette since Saturday morning. Saturday, Sunday, and Monday were mostly spent...

So this guy goes to the doctor and says "Doctor! You've got to help me! My dick is orange!"

The doctor's never seen anything like it, so he asks the guy a few questions. "Are you on any medication?" "No." "Have you had any unsafe sexual encounters recently?" "No sir, haven't got laid in months." "Well, are you exposed to any chemicals at your job?"...

Reading V for Vendetta. Wonderful. Interviewed Neil Gaiman this morning about Anansi Boys. Also wonderful. Interviewed him once before, three years ago. Has the most spectacular voice you've ever heard -- a high-class, educated, dignified English voice given some balls and character by a decade of living in the midwest U.S.. Better interview this time than last, had a focus -- the new...

Does it make a difference, for my point, whether these competing sites are fully operational, or merely in the works?

i'm really tired but i don't understand. your point was that it was people attempting to establish a competing site or sites, wasn't it? mine was that, in my experience, the people who are most vocally anti-sg don't have competition on their agenda. i guess you might be insinuating that there is an operational competing site that has all these people on payroll, but that is really far-fetched. sg doesn't really have a competitor in the niche they've carved out.

anyway, my answer is your question is besides my point and i don't see how it would matter to your's unless you're privy to some pin-up site economic strata that seems to be off everyone's radar.

wan:
yeah, i know. it's difficult to beat around the bush with this stuff. but i do disagree with what you just said about timing. i think a couple of other factors are more important. if anything, i think she's trying to capitalize on the situation, but i don't think her motives are competition, at least in a business sense. obviously, she's very vocal, but my impression is that she envisions herself as a modern joan of arc far more than an empire builder. maybe i'm naive. we should take it off-site if you want to persue it anymore.
