In a situation many on here may not be familiar with, our past couple of weeks have been largely determined by the need to help an elderly ladyfriend who's showing first signs of dementia sort out her home and financial affairs - all this from a distance of some 600 km. Last week, we spent three days on site, cleaning out her place, yesterday a small truckload of her stuff was delivered to our home for temporary storage, and this coming weekend, we'll be moving herself to a nursing home near us here in Berlin. It's been stressful, and on top of my continued unhappy and depressing work situation.

Oh well, tonight, with a half a bottle of Riesling in my tummy, Rossini's overture's providing a pleasantly lilting soundtrack, and a fireplace DVD simulating cozy warmth, and last not least the lovely people of SG, life appears almost bearable ;-)

@budoviking Thank you very much, I appreciate that! You know, my own parents also died quite a few years ago while still in their 50s, and I sometimes catch myself thinking that wasn't so bad because at least I (and they) were spared a lengthy deterioration.

I think that's extremely thoughtful of you to offer your help. Dealing with the elderly and their health issues can sometimes be extremely frustrating. I live in a society over here, where it is expected that the children will take care of their parents and by and large, that's what happens here. A nursing home is a no-no and is usually for those who don't have any children. Lots of patience my friend!!!
