I sometimes wonder how many Ayn Randers are sitting at home enjoying their enhanced unemployment and government stimulus checks while waiting for it to be safer or more profitable to start working again.

For reals. I know one who is also living at home while collecting all that free money. It's incredible how stupid the world is. Thank you so much for playing my film game. Coming from someone in New Mexico somehow makes it feel extra special.

A coworker called out with covid-like symptoms. I worked with them two nights ago. When I asked if I could be tested while we're waiting the 5 days for it could take for their test results to come back I was told that there aren't enough tests so I don't meet the criteria. So here I am at work, with a mask on, having potentially...

Tip #2: Tackle Your Stress

Listen, everyone is worried. The unknown is scary, especially when it comes down to our lives and those of our loved ones. It's totally legitimate to feel scared right now. I'm a nurse, father, I work in a hospital with inadequate personal protective equipment. I get scared. Take a minute to let that the normalcy and validity sink in, how...

Tip #1

Don't freak out. Freaking out is always the enemy in any crisis situation (fear is the mind killer, anyone?)

So now that you're not freaking out let's state some likelihoods.

-you're likely to catch covid 19 at some point. All this social distancing is about making sure everyone doesn't get it all at once. But you're probably going to get it.

-most likely...

It is such a hard time for people with preexisting diseases, anxiety disorders, and for the elderly. That really sucks and I am so sorry for them... But there are things you can do to stay safe: Stay at home, wash your hands, try to keep calm. Don't watch too many news, rather read a good book or listen to some music that makes you happy. I know it's not much, but it's something. Keeping my fingers crossed and sending love to all of you! And @josephtoo : Great blog post, thanks for sharing! 💜

@oldernow @josephtoo I've been pretty adamant about not going out and have been avoiding people like the plague....hehehe Too soon?😆 The crappy part is that my wife is a pharmacist and has to go to the pharmacy which means more exposure to people. She's always been really good about constantly using hand sanitizer, long before this virus was ever a thing. I try to look at it from both sides. As much as I'm trying to avoid getting it, I'd hate to not know I have it and give it to someone else so I'm going to continue staying in as much as humanly possible. Luckily for me I'm not a big fan of going out and unless I'm working in the shop, I'm in the house watching cartoons so it's really not bad staying away from public places. I actually enjoy the isolation.🤷‍♂️

Community Health Rules for Everyday Life (even after covid-19 has stopped being so stinking exciting):

1. don't freak out

2. take reasonable measures to not get yourself sick (eat well, take vitamins, drink water, avoid sick people, wash your damn hands)

3. take reasonable measures to not get other people sick (make sure you're up to date on the recommended vaccine schedule which is single...

Wow I haven't posted a blog in over two years. School, work, skiing, pretty mountains, cold cabin, new dog, same partner. I've got no complaints.
josephtoo:
Oh, and check this out, it's amazingly awesome.

thank you for reminding me of the word "hoarfrost". that is an effing great word.

also, we appear to be very close to being the exact same person, with perhaps different gender identities and on opposite sides of the continent. but still.

Wow I haven't really been on the site since April when Mt. Redoubt was erupting. I guess I don't spend much time on the internet during the summer. Now that it's dark and cold it's time for some SG. So updates:

I quit my job at the family planning clinic so that I can move up to Anchorage next month. I'm hoping to move into...

I'm leaving for a 5 day cross country skiing trip on Wednesday and am starting to get my stuff together for the trip. I've never done a ski/backpack trip before, in fact I've never really winter camped before (I do all of my hiking in the summer) but I'm going with some people who do this trip every year so I'm not nervous about that...

When I camp I make kabobs... Prep them at home, put on the stick and pack them well.
Complete meal on a stick.
Good luck.
