I'm boing to Baltimore. I tried everything I could think of to talk myself into going to Roosevelt, but ultimately I mostly wanted to do that simply because I wanted to live in Chicago. The bottom line is, Baltimore is the better program for me right now. I'm still not completely sure about my decision, but I'm more sure about it than I would have...

_margot_:
Hey, there are a few suburbs of Baltimore that aren't terrible Glen Burnie is not all that fun or exciting, but it is cheapish. Will you have a car or no?
_margot_:
I lived in Baltimore for two years and before that in Glen Burnie, it has it's crime, but a lot less than Baltimore, and rent was reasonable.

Still trying to decide between Baltimore and Roosevelt. I think I'm leaning toward Baltimore now, even though I've really been trying to talk myself into Roosevelt because I love the city of Chicago so much. But when I'm actually honest with myself,...

I visited Baltimore University today. It's an interesting program, one that focuses a lot on teaching you how to publish your own work and get a job in the publishing industry as well as the craft of writing, while offering almost no Lit Theory courses, which is what Roosevelt in Chicago focuses a bit more on. There are merits to both curriculums. I loved Baltimore,...

That is a good question. If you will be attending Roosevelt, and getting involved with SGChicago, the chances of knowing me greatly improve. biggrin

So I got accepted into Roosevelt University in Chicago the other day, which is awesome, but it now presents a problem. Chicago is a great city, and my girlfriend has always loved it and wanted to live there, but Baltimore is close to Philadelphia, where my parents live, and I've always been fascinated by its culture (yes, that included the bad parts -- it's part...

HOLY SHIT!! come to chicago!!! I hadnt even thought that u might have applied someplace around here, lol. Philly really isnt that far from here, either. And yeah, u dont wanna upset the lady!! And u DONT wanna upset the ash.

So .. how many schools are left? Hopefully there are some u are waiting on that DO have internship programs. I can say that everyone Ive known that lives or has lived in NC has hated it a great deal. I mean, the scenery is pretty ... but thats abt it, Im afraid.

Best luck to u in your choices, I know u will probably always wonder if u made the right one, no matter WHICH school u choose!

I'm watching a Women's NCAA Tournament game on ESPN2 being played at Purdue, and I inevitably thought back to all the games I covered as a camera guy underneath the hoop on the right side of the TV screen. Not for the first time, I started getting very homesick for Purdue and looked at a whole bunch of pictures from the campus and the surrounding...

Got rejected from Washington yesterday (EDIT: and Texas today; I moved down here mostly so I could maybe have a better chance of getting in because it was my number one choice. I never had much hope of getting in, but getting the actual letter left me with a bad taste in my mouth I really, REALLY need to find a bar). Six more schools...

Duke scared me last night.

KU played great.

I think KU can make it pretty far this year.

Sorry about Washington, babe.

I'm sorry, duder. I wanna hit up a bar too! biggrin But I probably wont tonight, boo.

I've never seen that show, ha.

Whatever happened to the "roll" part of "Rock 'N Roll?" I should start a roll band; it'd be pretty original.

Where the hell has James Cameron been? Remember when he actually directed a movie that made Tom Arnold funny (True Lies)?

Fans of the "torture porn" genre sometimes like to claim that, by indulging in all sorts of stomach-churning individual violence, the movies...

I got twenty or so rejections before I made the first sale, and then it was four years before I sold the novel. It's...uh. A shitty business.

Helloooo? Anybody?

Well, I got accepted to the University of Baltimore, so I know I won't be shut out, but I also got rejected today by both Iowa and Florida State. I'm glad to know that at least someone wants me, but UB doesn't have much in the way of financial aid and they don't offer any teaching assistanceships. So, for those of you following...

Get the fuck out, TX rejected you??? Where was I? I was really routing for that one! Do any of these places give u reasons behind their decisions or is that not how they do things? I wouldnt know, I havent even attained my AA yet frown

So ... which schools are left now?? I do hope theres a better option than baltimore, since that doesnt seem to have everything u would like to have in a school program. *sigh* Hang in there man, you're gonna get something worthwhile! Anything is better than nothing, afterall smile

After the shittiness of the last few days (see previous posts), I finally have something good to report: I've reached what I've projected to be the halfway point of my novel: 75,000 words and almost 250 pages. Although I'm not entirely certain if that will actually be halfway; there's still a lot more to go from where I am in the story. But when I...

And today I got rejected from the University of PIttsburgh. I'm on a roll now.

On another note, everyone should go read "Good-Bye Chunky Rice" by Craig Thompson. It's a really short graphic novel, but it's very whimsical, cute, bittersweet, sad, and good. Thompson's follow-up work, "Blankets," is one of my favorite books (of any format) ever. And I love the animals in it (I've...
