I had a wonderful trip up to the UP in Michigan. Spent a lot of time communing with Lake Superior. What a fabulous hunk of water.

Back in Athens now. The new school year starts very soon. OU is on semesters for the first time. A different groove.

Lots of music coming up: the Paranormals, the Porters, Liz Pahl & the Pahlbearers and the Lennon Orchestra...

I am setting a goal. It has something to do with me ditching my self-imposed shackles; dropping some of my self-imposed filters, and just being who I am.

It sounds so simple, but in a small community, things can get conservative on you - even in as liberal a town as Athens! Let's just say, as I continue to climb out of this years-long depression...

I don't usually have the benefit of freshly baked bread. If it's fresh I'd be enjoying it that way, but it's tough to keep bread that way.

We downloaded Secret of Kells originally but now I want to own a copy.

Goodness gracious. I've been gone so long I thought I'd never find my way back. Thank goodness the doors here remain open.

It's been winter here. We've had lots of snow, as have so many others. Our driveway is about a 1/2 mile long and a very steep hill. I've done some winter hiking this year. Most days I...

Wait a minute! Do I have to start a group, or am I the only one on this site with a pigtail fetish?

Thank you to my benefactors. You keep me alive here, and my poor ass is forever so very grateful! Hey, I'm a writer if SG (or anyone) needs some stringer work. I have credentials (somewhere), and a modicum of talent - and I own a dictionary! I am also president of the local chapter of the Semi-Colon Preservation Society.

I sat down to write the opening rant to my article and this little story tumbled out. I used it instead. I think it's called:

the Curmudgeon: Part 1

The Curmudgeon returns to his porch; hes crusty, full of bile and mustard packets. He wears a scowl that insists that the world crawl off and die. Hes so old, hes not even retro. He...

I just finished a Dec 29, 2008 Sports Illustrated article about Michael Vick's Pit Bulls and what happened with them. After the raid of Vick's Virginia farm, where 51 Pit Bulls were kept, bred, trained and fought, PETA and the U.S. Humane Society both agreed that the dogs were too violent and dangerous and should be put down.

PETA spokesman Dan Shannon...

I use to live and work on a dog rescue with 200 dogs, 75% being Pit Bulls. They were some of the sweetest pups I knew.

Well, I have finally figured out the whats and wherfores about my winter migration. I will be flying instead of driving to Colorado on January 21. I'll be back in Athens by early March. The downside is I won't be able to take my dog, but he'll be fine without me. It's like going on a long tour.

If anyone has...

This is something brand new. It came out words, then music, pretty much just like this. The last verse is actually the chorus for the song, but as it also came out last it maintains the integrity of the revelation, if not the meter. I call it:

In your smiles

So magick is this tragic love
that hides behind ten paces;
worrisome looks and miles...

Oh of course, I'd be happy to fill you in on what I know.

I was not very close to Lianne, although we went to school together and lived in the same neighborhood, so I don't know all the details of what happened. What I was told, though, was that in early October she went to the hospital for a routine procedure; I believe she was trying out a new pain medication (I'm not sure if it was for her scoliosis, fibromyalgia, or both), and she had an allergic reaction to it and went into a coma. A day or two later (October 6th) she passed away.

I was just listening to a video of her playing the guitar yesterday; even though I didn't know her well, she really served as an inspiration to me. She was so strong, beautiful, and unique, and I really looked up to her. I know lots of people say things like that when someone dies, but I really did feel that way.

I hope that information helps smile

Coasting on the high that followed an amazing night of music in the town of Athens by my band the Royales I found myself at the Casa Cantina when this poem stumbled into me. It said:

i am vast
a force of nature
i moved the mountain
and Love flowered in its place
i couldn't have been more pleased.

i stuck my fingers down...
