I'm leaving today to spend two weeks on a research fellowship on spiritual lifewriting at a highly Catholic university.

Maybe not summer school, as it looks like I'll be out of town for a chunk of it -good thing I hadn't paid for it yet, huh? I'll be back in town on August 12th (I leave on the 7th), so you may want to delay your arrival slightly. Also, when I say I have a summer job I mean I'm hoping to find one that's not absolutely awful. But we'll see.

The paper is almost done - all it needs now is a dazzling conclusion. If you're curious, I'm writing on redemption and meaning in Tadeusz Borowski's stories. I'm not wild about the English translation of his works, and stories about Auschwitz are not exactly light reading, but nonetheless, I urge you all to read the book - it's incredible writing.

There are times when I love being a grad student and feel totally certain that what I'm doing is interesting and worthwhile, but right now is not one of them.

Ah, yes, 'the other woman'. She & I are actually going to be living together next semester -- I almost relish the thought of his being that much more crippled with awkwardness. And now, of course, I'm just waiting for the day when I can tell his current paramour a long history.

The worst part is that she went on medical leave for 3 semester, and when she came back, he barely acknowledged her. Only after she told me about their weird and awkward history (after I'd broken up with him) did all of our mutual friends confirm exactly what had gone down. It doesn't help that both myself & his current girlfriend easily could have been replacements for her.

But I suppose it makes sense. There are certain personality traits we all share that certain men can recognize... and completely fuck up. Eh.

I'm so fucking full of sushi right now. I want to die reeking vaguely of nori. YUM!

Wow! She speaks smile . Yeah, I think we would have been much better off finding a nice big plank, about three feet wide and just over twice as long as the gap between the porch railings and turning it into a very primitive converyor belt...but that's just me. We had fun, anyway...
