any literature buffs out there?

it's later, yes; i'm still tired. doesn't seem to matter how much i sleep. i have a lot to do this week- it's my last couple days of summer school class and i've got to throw together a 10 pg. paper tonight. i don't know what i'm writing it on, yet. the possible texts are: Conrad's "heart of Darkness"; Joyce's "The Dead"; and Faulkner's "A Rose for Emily". The assignment is pretty vague, but requires i form a thesis on one or more of the texts in relation to Modernism. so... any ideas?

sorry i haven't been responding to journal entries (on an altogether unrelated note). i promise i'll be more with it when the weekend's over and done with.

until then, keep on fighting the good fight. xoxoxo...

May I recommend Mountain Dew. Lots of it. And constant coffee and cigarettes. And iced tea. Nothing like a bleary eyed all-nighter session to engage in caffeine and nicotine overdose.

You could talk about how the forest in Heart of Darkness represents a wildness that western culture can't beat, and the justaposition of the "wild" Africans (who are mostly all well behaved and orderly) and the "civilized" Europeans (who are killing each other and whatnot. The absurdity of it all seems to be a central point.

But, thinking about it, it's probably too late to be of any help.

Hope it all went well. Conrad's a bitch to read.
