To the
Lake
Early morning
Headed
For the dam…
A silver mist
Rises up
Over everything
Cattle offstage
Lowing…
I dip my paddle
Into the
Placid water
Relishing this time
Before
The speed boats
And the skiers…

One monument
A dead log
Stuck high
In the fork of a tree

The trees are white

As a month-long show…
I wish I was in Florianopolis
Though it's almost winter there
With some beauty
Whose smile never wavers
Pretty sure
She would keep me warm.
