now, I know I'm not a horticultural expert and can't tell exactly what a produce item is at 100 feet, but I ran into a situation yesterday that I ask you, those who read my blog, to please comment on...

I'm on register, a lady comes through. she has a yellow squash. I type in the code and it rings up as "Yellow Zucchini". she tells me that is wrong, that it is "Yellow Summer Squash," and costs less. I void the item out, look up "Yellow Summer Squash" and see the closest we have listed is "Yellow Squash" (BTW, the SAME code as "Yellow Zucchini"). I type in the code, and the lady is "See, there is a price difference!" and I look and go "Um, not really," and show her how it is still ringing up as "Yellow Zucchini". she tells me it is wrong, so I ask her "Do you know the code for this item?" and lo and behold, she does not. I show her ALL the choices for squash.

finally, she goes "Your computer system is wrong, I don't want it."

now.....what is the difference between "Yellow Summer Squash", "Yellow Squash", and "Yellow Zucchini"?

anyone?

To me, the term seems to be just a regional thing. I found THIS which included the following description:

"Summer squash come in a variety of shapes, colors and sizes. Types of summer squash include scallop or pattypan, cocozelle, zucchini and yellow squash, both crookneck and straightneck. The different types of summer squash tend to have similar tastes and are often interchangeable in recipes."

Which means, I agree with MDF.

I agree with both of you...but for the sake of customer service I did not point out her stupidity.
