fun day on Wednesday...and long day. I worked overnight. thankfully I had (and accepted) the offer to drive my Mom's Jeep Liberty to work. Tuesday we got hit by snow (not as much as Canada, but a good amount). I decided to drive my Neon to work.....not too bad getting there (only slid once) but slow driving.

coming home at 8 AM, though...different story! I figured I slid about 6 to 8 times. slow driving, gave myself about 3 or 4 car lengths to stop. quite annoyed by the bastards driving fast, zipping by....with their cars covered in snow still. the ride that normally takes me 20 to 25 minutes....at least 45 minutes to get home. but, with the luxury of time, didn't matter to me.

however, Wednesday, I did not have that luxury. from work, I got to drive in to substitute teach. 6th grade science class, 3rd time this year having the class. fun times, a few kids acted up, but nothing too severe. one girl asked about coming down during lunch for some help (which I obliged), helped her work through a problem on figuring out the energy conversion steps of burning coal in a power plant to produce electricity. unit on Fossil Fuels, BTW.

one kid, he has a behavior modification plan. part of it is getting him to focus. one girl kept trying to "push his buttons." since part of his plan is not moving during passing time (but waiting until the end), he got to hang around for a short time. great time to talk to him, and try to get him to understand....great way to stop people from "pushing your buttons" is to ignore them. it takes time, but once they realize you won't react, they stop. hopefully he listens.

got done with that, came home, figured I would stay up for a while (hey, it was around 3:30 PM, so working on 20 hours awake on about 6 hours of sleep). started playing a video game, and, well, I know its time to sleep when I don't remember things. so napped for a few hours, and now time to go to bed (so I can wake up and work on Thursday).

and one of the interesting parts was explaining to the Security Guard when I pulled in that I park far out because I can. he told me that far lot is for students, that I can park closer.

I explained to him that in February, I pulled a muscle in my leg (muscle in my hip that helps you raise your leg). I couldn't walk for about a day, and took me about 2 or 3 weeks before I could walk normally without pain. so I park far out and walk because, well, I can walk. nothing like not being able to do something to make you really appreciate things, huh?

so what now? have a few Christmas gifts to buy...

both sisters
one sister's husband (I refer to him as the thing she married)
one sister's non-husband husband (dating for 15+ years now)
step-father
step-mother
cousin's three sons (ages 3, 6, and 8)
"Secret Santa" person at work (20 year old, big into Hippie stuff and math...got to find some geeky math toys for her).

and last night, chatted with a customer. this customer and I, she would come in at night and we could spend a good 1/2 hour or so chatting things up. got along great......then she dropped the bombshell (or at least slipped out, I picked up on it)

she had a boyfriend...

well, found out that they broke up....he ended a 6 year relationship by calling her from another state (Chicago, IL) and breaking up with her over the phone. so now she has anger and such. but who knows!

now just need to nut up and take some action....then again, with a track record of 0 for whatever, should I bother?

yup, that's about it...time for sleep, hope to be around Friday night in chat, if people know a good place to buy geeky math gifts for someone studying to be a math teacher, please let me know! thanks!
