so, as some may know, my neighbor has asked me if I'm willing to learn how to ride a motorcycle. he figures that his girlfriend's 250 (or less) CC dirtbike would be a good start for me (not a lot of power, and light weight). however, since I know NOTHING really about standard transmissions (never learned to drive standard, I know, bad, right?), I have to learn that first.
his solution....learn to shift on his somewhat beat up 3 wheeler that is a standard transmission. so last night, drove out to a friend's of his (me, him, and his girlfriend) with the 3 wheeler, her dirtbike, and his quad runner (fully automatic). armored me up (chest protector, knee and shin guards, elbow guards, and helmet) and started teaching me.
starting up...yeah, stalled quite a bit. still learning the entire "feather the clutch" thing...I tend to let the clutch out too quickly. however, once moving, I can shift upwards and downwards no problem (made it up to 3rd gear and back down to 1st no problem). unfortunately, it got dark and started to rain before he attempted to maim me on the dirt bike. but at least its a start.
and yes, he took pictures....I might get them from him to load up here. who knows.
but so far....lesson 1, good. I can kick start the 3-wheeler like a champ now as well!
