so the kitchen is almost done...all that is left to do (besides buying a few things for it) is hang the curtains up. I have to get one curtain rod and put it at the right height....so the pictures with the curtains are not the final location.
I did not take any "before" pictures, sorry....but let's just say the cupboards were painted a dark green, the handles were tarnished, and the walls were a light pink almost....so here goes...
this is the new floor...the old floor was linoleum from the 1960's, this floor is ceramic tile.
this is the entrance out to the hallways. the little black box was a diorama thing we found while cleaning. you can get an idea of how the cupboards and one wall look now.
picture towards the one corner. the shelf on the wall is where we're putting all our items we do not use a lot (such as convection oven, blender, and what not). you can get an idea of the curtains as well as the wall. no, its not wall paper. I painted the wall a base color (the dark green), sponge painted over it a lighter green, and then when that was done, realized it was too much of the light green and went back over, sponge painting on the darker green.
a shot where the oven is. you can see at the edge the sliding panels we have above our cupboards. those panels were painted the lighter green color as well.
all in all, almost done. we might paint the ceiling (I wish we did it originally before moving everything back in). then again, if we painted BEFORE the floor was replaced, life would have been a lot easier. however, since my family decided to empty the kitchen the night before the guy started the work, that did not happen. for the ceiling, I want to paint it the lighter green color (its almost white). plus trim and the doors will be painted the lighter green color.
the hardest part.....those aluminum tracks you see holding the sliding panels in place. the area was so narrow I could not get my drill into the area (bought an attachment to the drill that allows me to drill in a 90 degree angle of the drill). when the house was built, those tracks were attached with little screws (oh, about 1/8 of an inch long or so....or 0.3175 cm long) that were flat headed screws. all the top tracks had the screws out (because, well, holding something into drywall that is that small doesn't work). so I had to expand the holes and put hollow wall anchors up and longer, philips head screws. those tracks are not falling down now.
so that's what I've been doing the past week and a half. we even painted a cabinet the dark green with the light green on the inside panels of the doors. now I have to get the doors working right (wood sliding on wood does not work....I put felt pads in one track to help it slide...but still fighting with it.....suggestions would be great!) plus all the brass handles were cleaned and covered in lacquer to protect them. some say a project of love....I call it an exercise in masochism.
now all that is left is painting the doors....which should suck!
