well, survived Free Comic Book Day this past Saturday. I went to my cousin's shop around noon to help out with the intentions to leave around 3 PM. I left at 7 PM when he closed.
so some highlights....
me getting my picture taken with a Jawa (picture to follow soon).
going on a walk with his three children (2, 5, and 7) and their grandmother. we walked down a block, took a turn, and walked down to the Genesee River. not a bad walk. it was interesting, though, when we see some snakes swimming in the water. the grandmother is "Aren't those snakes cool?" and I"m thinking "Hmmm....we do have Water Moccasins in the area....I do not know what they look like nor do I want to see if those are Water Moccasins."
a lady coming in, buying about $4 of comic books (8 $0.50 comics that my cousin sells). he tells her to pick what she wants, she mentions that she's shopping for her husband. my cousin asks....he's stationed in SC right now, in the Army. my cousin is "Oh really?" and then proceeds to load her up with all sorts of Free Comic Book Day stuff, going "He might like this, and this, and this, and this.....oh, here's a Simpson comic book, let's see what else...." as my cousin said "Hey, he's protecting me, I"ll take care of him."
so a busy day. but not too bad. even bumped into some co-workers. and my cousin's "Niece". she's technically not his niece (she's the daughter of his sister's boyfriend), but we treat her the same. she stopped down (and stayed) to help out with the kids. she's maybe a freshmen in High School, her jeans are torn and she's wearing torn tights underneath. as I said...."Oh, you're an emo girl now?" she didn't like that.
so yeah, that was Free Comic Book Day in a nutshell. people in Star Wars costumes (the Chewbacca one was home...kids tend to freak out when confronted by a 7 foot tall walking rug that makes the Chewbacca noise for some reason). food, lots of people. my cousin told people noon to 7. he showed up at his store around 11:15 AM to finish setting up....people started rolling in then and didn't stop until 7 PM or so. so a full day for him, for sure!
needless to say, Sunday was sleep, relaxation, and getting ready for work for me. and how was your weekend?
